Community Workshops & Artisan Collaborations
Beyond our physical spaces, we build bridges between hand and heritage. From artisan-led workshops to immersive design events, join us as we bring traditional craft into the modern conversation.
We were the official gifting partners for the DesignUp conference in Bangalore. This video shows our workshop, where we discussed the role of craft in UI/UX design and how traditional principles can inspire modern, technology-driven solutions.
We organized a day trip for the members of Silver Talkies to our artisan unit in Channapatna and our Mysore store. It was a beautifully executed experience of cultural immersion, local food, and retail therapy, connecting a new audience directly with our artisans.
Some friends are more than cheerleaders; they are your compass. This video is a heartfelt thank you to Anju Shenoy, a powerhouse who has been a quiet strength behind the scenes, celebrating every win and offering unwavering support, especially during our Goa store launch.
A glimpse of our stall at the KutEERA exhibition organized by the Crafts Council of Karnataka. It was a beautiful, cozy setting with a curation of the finest crafts from across India, where we showcased our Channapatna collection.
This video shows the KULA Enclave installation we created, inspired by a beautiful monstera-adorned branch. It was one of our most satisfying stall designs, created for a showcase by 200 Million Artisans and Creative Dignity.
Our installation, "Where Have The Birds Gone?", is an ode to the sparrows that were once the soul of Bangalore. It uses the Channapatna craft to highlight how both nature and craft traditions are at risk of disappearing if we don't pay attention.
About this collection
When you join us for a workshop or an artisan-led trip, you aren't just observing a process. You’re stepping into a dialogue. Whether it’s a session on how traditional Channapatna craft informs modern UI/UX design or a day spent with our weavers in our Channapatna unit, these moments are where we bridge the gap between ancient technique and contemporary life. We don't just sell products; we create spaces to learn, ask questions, and understand the hands behind the objects.
Connecting Craft to Modern Design
Our collaborations aren't just about display. They are active explorations of how heritage fits into our fast-paced lives. When we partner with conferences like DesignUp, it isn't just a showcase. We dive into the philosophy of 'why'—why craft matters in tech, how the curve of a wooden toy can inspire better product design, and how we can keep these principles alive. We are constantly looking for ways to make the ancient art of our artisans relevant to designers, creators, and curious minds.
Immersive Experiences
We love hosting groups who want to go deeper. Take, for instance, our collaboration with Silver Talkies, where we organized an immersive day trip to our Channapatna artisan unit. Participants got to see the wood-turning process firsthand, enjoy local food, and understand the reality of the artisan's life. It wasn't a tour; it was a connection. If you are a community group, a school, or a corporate team looking to understand the 'soul' of what we do, we invite you to reach out.
Installations & Exhibitions
Sometimes, our craft takes the form of art installations. Projects like 'Where Have The Birds Gone?', our ode to the sparrows of Bangalore, used Channapatna craft to talk about ecological balance and the risks our traditions face today. Through these installations, we invite our community to pause and think. These pop-ups and exhibitions, whether at the Crafts Council of Karnataka or bespoke gallery spaces, are how we keep our stories alive outside the walls of our stores.
Varnam Craft Collective
I'm Karthik, and for me, Varnam has always been about building a home for our craft, not just a store. I want to create spaces where you can meet the makers, learn about their struggles and wins, and see the human effort behind every piece. It's about building a community that genuinely cares about keeping these traditions alive.
