Our Homes: The Varnam Store Experience

We don't believe in showrooms. We believe in homes. Step inside our spaces in Bangalore, Mysore, and Goa to experience the story behind every handcrafted piece we create.

We are often asked why we have physical stores. It's because we believe handcrafted traditions are meant to be felt and lived, not just swiped past online. Shopping at an independent store like ours keeps a story, a tradition, and a street alive.

A quick tour of our Indiranagar store, showcasing our diverse collection. From Channapatna toys and home decor to pure cotton clothing and accessories, our stores are curated to be a must-visit place for unique, handcrafted gifts.

A happy customer in our Indiranagar store, wearing one of our elephant-print dresses. She shares her experience of shopping with us, highlighting the joy of finding ethically sourced, handmade products for the whole family under one roof.

A tour of our Jayanagar store, highlighting the variety of crafts we house. From Channapatna lac-turnery and Pondicherry ceramics to handmade dolls and handloom sarees, every purchase you make here supports artisan livelihoods across India.

Our stores are designed to feel like a home, avoiding the typical showroom feel. This video shows the beautiful, welcoming garden at our new Jayanagar store, a key element in creating a space where customers feel at ease.

We are so glad to have a beautiful new home in Jayanagar, nestled in a green neighborhood. This video gives you a glimpse of the location, which is easily accessible and has ample parking, making for a pleasant shopping experience.

Restoring antique pieces gives them a new lease of life and adds soul to our spaces. These two beautiful teakwood pillars from Mysore were restored and now occupy a place of pride at our Indiranagar store in Bangalore.

About this collection

Stepping into a Varnam space is meant to be a slow experience, not a quick purchase. Whether you visit our 150-year-old Indo-Portuguese villa in Goa or our garden-filled store in Jayanagar, you are entering a space where the items on the shelves carry the names of the artisans who made them. We do not have sales targets for our team; their only goal is to share the history of the Channapatna craft or the story of the block-printed saree you are holding. When you visit, you aren't just shopping for an object; you are meeting the tradition that created it.

Why We Built Homes, Not Stores

In a world where shopping has become synonymous with endless scrolling and checkout clicks, we wanted to create a physical refuge. We built Varnam stores to be places where you can pause, touch the wood of a lathe-turned toy, feel the weight of organic cotton, and breathe.

Where to Find Us

  • Bangalore: We have two homes. Visit us in Indiranagar, where we restored antique teakwood pillars to frame our space, or drop by our new Jayanagar store, tucked away in a quiet neighborhood with a garden that we hope will keep growing.
  • Mysore: Located in Gokulam, our Mysore home is a cozy, light-filled space where we collaborate with our neighbors at Sapa Bakery to nurture a creative ecosystem.
  • Goa: Housed in a 150-year-old Indo-Portuguese villa in Sangolda, this space is the quietest heart of our collective.

The Varnam Difference

When you walk through our doors, you will notice the absence of the typical retail rush. Our stores are filled with memories—like the urga jaadis from childhood or the traditional koodais that remind us of temple runs. We wanted to make sure that when you buy a handcrafted product, you understand the entire journey. You will see authentic Channapatna lac-turnery, sustainable baby apparel dyed with medicinal herbs, and hand-woven bags that mix tradition with modern function.

If you have been searching for a place to buy ethical, artisanal home decor in India, or a space where you can support women-led artisan units, we invite you to simply walk in. No pressure, no targets, just craft and conversation.

We are Varnam. We built these spaces because craft is meant to be felt and lived, not just swiped through on a screen. Every time you walk into one of our homes, you are keeping a decade-long tradition—and the stories of our artisan family—alive.
