We believe art is a gift best shared. Our studio transforms into a lively hub for exhibitions, open houses, and collaborative projects, inviting everyone to connect, learn, and co-create in a space where old-school analog techniques meet fresh perspectives.

A video montage from the opening night of the "Inheritance" exhibition at our studio and a walkthrough at the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP). This project was a wonderful international collaboration with the British Council.

The poster for "nothing knew," an exhibition by six young photographers from our training program. The show celebrated their journey exploring the art and craft of photography, from its beginnings to contemporary processes.

The talented young photographers from our Our Shared Cultural Heritage (OSCH) program, sitting together at the 1000-year-old Ramalingeshwara temple during a field trip.

About Our Creative Community: Events & Exhibitions

Our exhibitions are not just for viewing; they are often the result of long-term collaborative programs where you can see the raw process behind the final print. You will frequently find the artists themselves at these shows, happy to explain the 'how-to' or discuss the messy, non-linear journey of making work by hand.

A Space for Connection

At Kānike, we see an exhibition as a conversation, not a silent display. Whether it is showcasing the culmination of the OSCH (Our Shared Cultural Heritage) photography program or hosting an open house for local makers, we try to create an environment where the 'behind-the-scenes' is just as visible as the finished product.

Why We Exhibit

We exhibit to demystify the creative process. When you walk through our studio during an event, you are likely to see contact sheets, discarded test prints, and half-finished carvings alongside the final pieces. This approach allows us to share the story of the work—the trial, the error, and the unexpected joy of analog processes like cyanotype, woodcut, and film photography.

Community-Led Art

Our exhibitions often highlight the work of our community members, from young photographers finding their visual voice to international artists passing through Bengaluru. By collaborating with institutions like MAP (Museum of Art & Photography) and the British Council, we bring diverse narratives into our Cooke Town space.

How to Engage

  • Visit our Open Houses: We regularly open our doors for the public to browse new collections.
  • Meet the Artists: Our exhibitions provide a rare opportunity to speak directly with the creators about their techniques.
  • Join the Conversation: We often host walkthroughs or casual chats during our shows to dive deeper into the themes of memory, identity, and heritage.

Come by to see what we are working on—there is always a pot of lemon chai ready and a story waiting to be told.

We are a group of artists who find magic in the messy, handmade, and analog. Our studio in Cooke Town is where we host these gatherings, not just to show art, but to build a place where ideas can wander freely and new friendships are made over cups of lemon chai.
