Handcrafted Heritage and Modern Indian Craft

We believe design should whisper, not shout. Explore our world of hand-block prints, Channapatna woodcraft, and sustainable apparel—each piece a conversation between hand and heritage.

I want to be very clear, we won't play the game just to sell, because our work isn’t surface deep. Each product we design carries a cultural memory and a story that deserves to be told. If our values speak to you, we hope you will choose to buy from us, because every purchase sustains not just Varnam, but an entire community of artisans across India.

In a craft long dominated by men, we are proud to work with the only women-led artisan unit of its kind in Channapatna. This video celebrates Pallavi, Suganthi, and their team of talented women who are not just preserving a 200-year-old tradition, but reshaping it with their creativity and resilience. They are the heart of our collective.

Our custom hand-block printed mulmul sarees are made in small, limited-edition batches. This flamingo print saree, in soft pink, lavender, and grey, is crafted from 6.5 metres of ultra-soft fabric, making it versatile enough to be styled as you wish. Each saree includes a metre of contrast fabric for a blouse.

Our apparel line began with a simple search for a comfortable, well-designed shirt. Today, we offer a range of gender-neutral silhouettes, including these hand-block printed Cuban shirts. Made from breathable cotton, they feature easy prints and weaves that feel good on the skin and look good without trying too hard.

This roomy, handwoven laptop bag is our modern take on the classic plastic koodai bags from Chettinad. We've reimagined this nostalgic design with a vibrant Madras checks pattern, creating a functional and stylish bag that carries everything you need for the day, blending tradition with contemporary function.

Our Channapatna jewellery is designed to make a statement while being incredibly lightweight and easy to wear. Crafted from wood and finished with organic, non-toxic dyes, each piece, like this bold red Sankh neckpiece, is a small slice of wearable art, showcasing the versatility of this traditional craft.

We believe our stores are more than just retail spaces; they are homes built on warmth and care. This video captures the words of our customers, the people who walk through our doors and keep our story alive. We thrive because you choose to experience craft in person, and for that, we are endlessly grateful.

About this collection

When you pick up a piece here, you aren't just choosing a product; you’re sustaining a community. Our Channapatna jewellery, for instance, is turned from soft Hale wood and finished with organic, non-toxic dyes, meaning the bold colours you see are as safe on your skin as they are kind to the earth.

More Than Just Products

At Varnam, we operate on a simple premise: craft is a conversation, not a commodity. We don't chase algorithms or mass-market trends. Instead, we focus on the slow, deliberate process of making. Whether it's our hand-block printed mulmul sarees from Rajasthan or the Chettinad-inspired wire totes, every item is designed to bridge the gap between traditional techniques and your daily life.

The Artisan Connection

We work directly with clusters across India. When you see a piece of our apparel or a wooden toy, you are supporting makers like Pallavi in Channapatna or the weavers behind our Chettinad bags. We believe in transparency—knowing exactly who made your product and how it reached you is part of the joy of owning it.

Where to Find Us

We don't believe in sterile retail spaces. Our stores in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Goa are designed to be homes, not showrooms. They are spaces where you can touch the textures, feel the weight of the wood, and understand the stories embedded in every weave. If you can’t visit us in person, we are happy to bring the same care to your doorstep with shipping available across India.
