About Shadaja for Adults: Learn Hindustani Music
Our Shadaja program is intentionally structured to be stress-free, so you won't find rigid individual testing or pressure to be perfect here. We focus on choir-style harmony and group singing, which helps you build confidence through community rather than solo performance. If you have ever wanted to learn Hindustani classical music but felt intimidated by the technicality of it, these weekly sessions are the right place to start your journey.
Your Musical Journey with Shadaja
We believe that music is not just for performers, but for everyone who needs a creative breather. Our 12-week Shadaja terms are built for working professionals, parents, and anyone looking to learn swars (notes) and taals (rhythms) in a relaxed environment.
What Happens in a Session?
Each weekly session lasts about 45 to 60 minutes. We start with basic vocal warm-ups and Pranayam (breathwork) to help you focus, then move into the core lesson. You will learn the basics of different raagas, but the emphasis is always on how the music makes you feel. We provide digital practice tracks and lyrics so you can keep the learning going at home without the stress of homework.
Where We Meet
We conduct these in-person classes at convenient locations across Mumbai, including Peddar Road, Chowpatty, Lower Parel, and Tardeo. We also host sessions at TIFR in Colaba. Our goal is to make sure your commute to music is simple and fits into your busy week.
From Classroom to Stage
While our classes are non-judgmental, we do love to celebrate progress. If you feel ready, you have the opportunity to perform with our student community at major venues like the Royal Opera House. It is a wonderful feeling to stand with your group and share a bandish you have spent weeks practicing. If you have questions about which batch fits your schedule, reach out and let's find a spot for you.
The Sound Space
Hi, we are Kamakshi and Vishala. We started The Sound Space because we believe music is about human connection, not just notes on a page. Our Shadaja program for adults is our way of creating a warm, safe village where you can learn classical music at your own pace, supported by a community that cheers for you.
