Vīrya: Building Strength and Stability
My Vīrya practice goes beyond simple movement. We focus on the strength and stability of the spine, using dynamic sequences to build the energy you need to handle daily life.
My students inspire me. Here, a practitioner moves through a dynamic back-bending flow, demonstrating the strength and vitality we cultivate in our 'Sharan Sadhana' practice.
The key to asana is the spine. A strong spine is crucial for mindfulness and a pain-free life. My strength-based practice, Vīrya, focuses on building this foundation for vitality and longevity.
Perfection in asana means physical relaxation with absolute control. This video shows students working on challenging binds and inversions, learning to conserve and channelize energy to still the mind.
The vibe of my Gurgaon lot is consistency and sheer discipline. Here, students use the wall to build shoulder strength and stability, a preparation for inversions and arm balances.
Students holding Sirsasana (Headstand) in the shala. This inversion builds upper body strength, improves circulation, and brings a sense of calm and focus to the mind.
Yoga is all about balance. Some of us are flexible but need strength. This video shows how we work on both, here with a focus on building power for backbends like Urdhva Dhanurasana (Wheel Pose).
Students holding Navasana (Boat Pose), a powerful core-strengthening posture. A strong core is the foundation for almost every other asana in yoga.
A class works on Ubhaya Padangusthasana (Both Big Toes Pose), a challenging balance that requires core strength, hamstring flexibility, and deep focus.
"Okay...5". Building strength in practice is non-negotiable. Here, students learn the correct alignment for Chaturanga Dandasana, a foundational pose for building upper body and core strength.
Students practicing Bakasana (Crow Pose), an arm balance that teaches focus, courage, and the interplay between strength and balance.
About Vīrya: Building Strength & Stability
In my Vīrya classes, we do not treat the mat like a gym. We focus on the spine and core engagement because a stable spine is the secret to a pain-free life and mental clarity. Whether we are working on arm balances or inversion alignment, I provide the manual, hands-on adjustments you need to ensure you are working with your body’s unique geometry, not forcing it into shapes that do not belong.
Beyond the Stretch: Cultivating Vīrya
True strength in yoga is not about how flexible you are. It is about Sthiram Sukham, the Sanskrit term for steadiness and ease. In my Vīrya sessions, we move past the superficial desire for perfect poses and dive into the mechanics of a posture. We learn how to engage the bandhas and use the length of our exhalation to support our internal structure.
Whether you are struggling with chronic back pain, feeling lethargic, or looking to deepen your practice with inversions and arm balances like Bakasana (Crow Pose) or Sirsasana (Headstand), this sequence is designed to challenge you. We use the wall and props not as crutches, but as tools to understand our alignment and build the necessary muscle memory.
The SharanYoga Shala Experience
We practice in small, intimate groups in Panchsheel Park, South Delhi, and at The Quorum Club in Gurugram. My classes are structured to guide you home to your body: we start with Kriyas to cleanse, move into dynamic Asana for strength, and finish with Pranayama and deep Shavasana. You will not find loud music or competitive vibes here. You will find disciplined, authentic guidance in a space that respects your pace.
This is for anyone who feels that their current workout routine is leaving them drained rather than energized. If you are ready to stop performing gymnastics and start practicing real yoga, join us.
SharanYoga
I did not set out to teach yoga; I just wanted to survive the corporate grind. Now, I share what actually helped me find balance. My classes are simple, honest, and focused on using the breath to heal the body, not just moving for a workout.
