About 'Play with Clay' Beginner Workshops
You do not need prior experience to join. In these 3-hour sessions, I guide you through hand-building techniques like pinching and coiling to shape your own functional items like mugs or bowls. The best part is that I handle the complex post-session work, including trimming, glazing, and double-firing your creations, so your finished piece is ready for you to pick up in about 3 to 4 weeks.
A Space to Slow Down
My studio in HSR Layout is designed to be a quiet, sunny escape from the daily routine. Whether you are coming alone to find some peace or with friends for a fun day out, my goal is to make sure you leave feeling accomplished. We keep our 'Play with Clay' batches small, capped at just 8 people, because I want to make sure I can give everyone the personal guidance they need to feel confident with the clay.
What You Will Learn
We focus purely on hand-building in these beginner workshops. This means you will learn the fundamentals of pinching, coiling, and slab-building. You are not just making a generic pot; you are learning how to handle raw stoneware or earthenware to create shapes that reflect your own story.
The Full Journey
Pottery is a process, and that does not end when you leave the studio. After you finish your piece, it goes through a specific journey:
- Drying: We let your work dry slowly to prevent cracks.
- First Firing: The 'bisque' firing strengthens the clay.
- Glazing: Your pieces are dipped in food-safe, non-toxic glazes.
- Final Firing: A high-temperature kiln firing creates the final, durable ceramic finish.
Because of this process, your work will be ready to collect a few weeks after your session. It is the perfect way to see a project through from a lump of mud to a finished bowl or vase sitting on your table.
The Potter's Place
I am Bhavya, and I believe pottery is for everyone, not just the artists. My studio is a space where we focus on the joy of making and the quiet peace that comes from working with clay, rather than chasing perfection.
