Practical Defense Techniques for Real-World Safety
Master proven self-defense moves grounded in BJJ and Karate. Build the confidence to handle real-life scenarios with our expert-led sessions in HSR Layout.
Learning to defend against a wall choke is a vital part of our curriculum. We simulate these scenarios in a controlled environment to ensure you can respond effectively under pressure.
Mastering the fundamentals of the rear naked choke is about control, not aggression. Our instructors provide detailed guidance on hand positioning, body pressure, and finishing the submission safely.
The 'running man escape' is a dynamic BJJ technique for escaping side control. This drill teaches you how to use your legs and hips to create movement and transition to a safer position, like the reverse triangle shown here.
This video demonstrates the details for finishing a triangle choke. We teach you how to adjust your angle, control your opponent's posture, and apply pressure correctly to make the technique effective.
The 'ghost escape' is another option for getting out of side control. We teach a variety of escapes because every situation is different, and having multiple tools allows you to adapt to your opponent's pressure.
Here, we review how to escape side control when your opponent has their arm over your head. You will learn how to use frames and shrimping movements to create space and get back to a neutral or dominant position.
Establishing frames from the bottom is the first line of defense in BJJ. This video shows how to use your arms to create a structural barrier against your opponent's weight, giving you the space needed to escape.
About this collection
We do not just teach moves, we teach you how to escape danger. Whether it is breaking a wrist grip or defending against a wall choke, our drills are designed to help you use body mechanics to neutralize a threat, regardless of your size. Come in for a session and learn why seiken, the foundation, matters in every fight.
Our Approach to Defense
At The Dojo, we move away from theory. You will find that our self-defense modules rely heavily on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) for ground control and Karate for striking.
If you end up on the ground, you need to know how to create space. That is where our drills on shrimping and framing come in. We teach you how to use your legs to create a barrier, turning a disadvantageous position into a tactical opening. It is not about brute strength, but about leverage and body awareness.
What You Will Learn
- Situational Awareness: Drills to identify threats early and avoid escalation.
- Escape Mechanics: Techniques to break wrist grips and defend against rear chokes.
- Ground Basics: Introduction to BJJ movements that allow you to stand back up or find safety.
