Core Asanas for Strength & Weight Loss
Build core strength and burn calories with precise alignment. I show you how to master these essential poses for real, sustainable weight loss.
Surya Namaskar is a complete workout in itself, a blend of twelve powerful asanas. Practiced correctly, it can help balance your chakras, improve flexibility, and is one of the most effective ways to burn calories and manage weight.
I show you how to enhance your Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation by adding a strength-building sequence. We move with control from Plank to Chaturanga to Cobra, engaging the core and arm muscles. This is how we turn a simple flow into a powerful calorie-burning exercise.
Here, I break down the steps to achieve Kakasana, or Crow Pose. This arm balance is fantastic for building serious core strength and focus. Notice how I place my knees on my upper arms and engage my core muscles to lift my feet.
This is a look at a Vinyasa flow, where we move seamlessly from one pose to another, guided by our breath. This dynamic style of yoga, seen here with poses like Navasana (Boat Pose) and Halasana (Plow Pose), builds internal heat and increases stamina.
This is Camatkarasana, also known as Wild Thing pose. It's a beautiful heart-opening asana that builds strength in the shoulders and upper back while stretching the thighs. It’s a perfect example of how yoga builds both strength and grace.
About Core Asanas for Strength & Weight Loss
Many students think holding a plank longer is the only secret to a strong core, but it is actually about where your shoulders are placed relative to your wrists. In my classes, we stop and adjust these small details first. Once you master the alignment, you will feel the burn in your core rather than your lower back, making the pose safer and much more effective for shedding stubborn fat.
Why Alignment Matters More Than Effort
Yoga is not about straining your body to achieve a pose. It is about understanding the mechanics of each movement. When we practice asanas like Kakasana (Crow Pose) or Surya Namaskar, the goal is not just to perform the motion but to engage the right muscles. If your alignment is off, you are likely compensating with joints and ligaments instead of your core, which can lead to injury rather than fitness.
My Approach to Weight Loss
I treat yoga as a holistic system. In my Noida studio, we do not just sweat; we build. We combine the static holds of Hatha Yoga with the dynamic flows of Vinyasa to keep your metabolism active. My programs focus on:
- Core Engagement: Learning to use your center for balance in arm balances like Kakasana.
- Sahi Tarika (Correct Technique): Constant posture adjustment to ensure you are targeting muscles, not just moving through the motions.
- Breath Control: Using Pranayama to manage energy levels, which keeps you from burning out halfway through a session.
Sustainability Over Shortcuts
I have seen people lose up to 9kg in a month, but that is a byproduct of consistent practice, not a quick fix. My classes are structured to help you develop 'Abhyasa', or steady effort. Whether you join my weekday studio batches in Sector 104 or our weekend intensive bootcamp, the focus remains on building a practice you can actually maintain long-term.
If you have chronic pain or are just starting your weight loss journey, come as you are. We use blocks, straps, and wall mirrors to make sure every pose is accessible and effective for your current level.
