My Approach to Hatha Yoga
Yoga is not just a physical workout, but an inner technology to change how you experience life. Here is why I believe consistency beats intensity, and how you can make space for it in any lifestyle.
If you feel you don't have time for your well being, start with just five minutes a day. Don't wait for a special occasion or a new year to begin. Just five minutes of conscious practice can slowly create more space for yourself in your own life.
A common question I get is, "Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?". The answer is no. Flexibility is a result of the practice, not a requirement to start. Just come with an open mind, and your body will respond in its own time.
It is natural to compare, but in yoga, it is important to remember that your journey is unique. Your flexibility on any given day depends on your food, sleep, and state of mind. Approach your mat each day as if it is the first time, with curiosity and without judgment.
Your practice on the mat is only one part of the equation. The food you eat, the content you consume, and the company you keep all play a major role in how your sadhana unfolds. Creating a supportive lifestyle is key to experiencing the deeper benefits of yoga.
You can find many asanas online, but it is crucial to learn them properly from a trained teacher. How you get into a posture, how you breathe, and how you come out of it are as important as the posture itself. Incorrect practice can cause more harm than good.
When you feel your practice is slipping, that is the most important time to reach out to your teacher. Don't hesitate or feel shy. I am here to offer support and help you get back on track, not just when things are going well, but especially when they are not.
You cannot force others to practice yoga, but you can inspire them by your own example. When people around you see you becoming more balanced, healthy, and stable, they will naturally feel the benefits of being in your presence. Your practice itself is the greatest invitation.
Most people don't become yoga teachers as a career goal. We become teachers because the practice has touched our lives in a profound way. When you look for a teacher, find someone who inspires you to be consistent and supports your physical, mental, and spiritual growth.
I often wish I had discovered Yoga Namaskar as a teenager. The way this simple 10 minute practice stretches and activates the spine is incredible. It is a powerful tool for building a foundation of strength and vitality, no matter your age.
After any physical activity, whether it's yoga, running, or cycling, take a few minutes to just sit in stillness. This is when you can truly absorb the benefits of your practice. In these quiet moments, you can feel a deep sense of gratitude and pleasantness arise from within.
About My Approach to Yoga
Most people think they need an hour of free time or advanced flexibility to start. They don't. I often tell my students to start with just five minutes of conscious practice. Whether it is a few cycles of Surya Kriya or a simple spinal stretch, the goal isn't to look like the pictures—it is to create a small, non-negotiable space in your day to shift your internal state.
Yoga isn't something you do and then leave on the mat. What you do after you roll up your mat—what you eat, the company you keep, and how you handle stress—is just as important to your growth. This is the difference between exercise and Sadhana.
The Importance of Correct Guidance
I often see people trying to learn complex asanas from random online videos. This can cause more harm than good. When you practice, how you enter a pose, how you breathe, and how you come out are vital. At my studio in Konanakunte, I focus on these subtleties. I provide hands-on corrections to ensure your alignment is safe and effective, regardless of whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refine your existing practice.
Why Consistency Matters
It is natural to look for immediate results, but classical Hatha Yoga is a subtle process. Some days you might feel rigid, others you might feel flexible; this is perfectly normal and often depends on your food, sleep, and state of mind. Instead of chasing a specific outcome, I encourage my students to approach the mat with curiosity and no judgment. Over time, this consistency builds a stability in your system that physical intensity simply cannot replicate.
Creating Your Space
We practice in a consecrated space with natural ventilation, designed to minimize distraction and help you focus on the internal process. Whether you join our daily guided sessions, weekend groups, or specialized workshops like Angamardana or Yoga Namaskar, the environment is built to support your Sadhana. If you ever feel your practice stalling, reach out. I am here to help you get back on track, no questions asked.
