authentic hatha yoga: practice without performance

yoga is not a fitness routine, a photo opportunity, or a quick fix for your mental state. it is a path of discipline, silence, and self-observation. here is my approach to the practice.

This is what my asana practice actually looks like on most days. It is not a performance for a camera but a quiet return to the body. We work with what we have each day, focusing on the internal purpose of the poses, like aiding digestion and releasing tension, rather than chasing a perfect shape.

The term 'ego' is often misunderstood in modern spirituality. In traditional yogic texts like the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras, the concept of 'ahaṅkāra' is not about self-confidence but the delusion of identifying with the body and mind. My teaching is grounded in these texts, moving beyond pop psychology to explore the real philosophical roots of yoga.

I guide students through slow, intentional flows. My focus is on providing precise, hands-on adjustments to ensure safe alignment and help you feel the posture from the inside out. This is a collaborative process of exploration, not a fitness class where you just follow along.

The modern wellness market has turned 'kundalini' into a theatrical performance, but this is a profound distortion of a subtle and powerful process. True awakening, as described in the Upanishads, is a result of years of disciplined practice, not a weekend workshop. I am committed to teaching the authentic path, free from spiritual entertainment.

Pranayama, or breath control, is central to my practice. Here, I demonstrate Bhramari Pranayama, the humming bee breath, a powerful technique to calm the nervous system and prepare the mind for meditation. Learning to guide your breath is learning to guide your mind.

I am not a guru and I do not pretend to be flawless. This path is messy, and I believe in being honest about my own contradictions and struggles. Authenticity is more important than the illusion of perfection, and my role is to be a guide who walks the path alongside you, not one who claims to have already arrived.

The ultimate goal of practice is not a flexible body but a still mind. The discipline of sitting in meditation, especially in nature, allows the noise to settle and the truth to reappear. My upcoming retreats in the Himalayas are designed to facilitate this deep, quiet work.

A closer look at Parsvottanasana, or Pyramid Pose. This posture is an intense side stretch that lengthens the spine and hamstrings while challenging your balance. The reverse prayer position of the hands, or Paschima Namaskarasana, further opens the shoulders and chest.

About Featured

if you are tired of the insta-yoga circus, we might get along. my practice is not about flexibility or aesthetics; it is about digestion, stability, and clearing the mental noise. i work in small batches in bengaluru and offer 1-on-1 guidance where we use asana as a tool to dismantle the ego, not decorate it. we do not sweat for views, we sweat to understand our own minds.
