Swar Mandir: Our Sacred Space for Hindustani Classical
At Swarveni, our Rohini studio is more than an academy. It is a 'Swar Mandir', a dedicated sanctuary designed for the practice and preservation of Hindustani classical music.
A video tour of our academy, where music is a way of life. The portraits of great masters, the instruments, and the decor all contribute to a divine atmosphere.
Our 'Swar Mandir' (temple of melody), where instruments are revered and the space is prepared for a musical offering.
A behind-the-scenes look at the preparations for a Swarveni Baithak. Every detail is arranged with care by our students to create the perfect environment.
About The 'Swar' Mandir: Our Sacred Space
This is not a classroom or a typical concert hall; it is a space where we remove our shoes and silence the noise of the outside world. When you step into our Swar Mandir in the North Ex Mall, you are entering a quiet zone where every detail, from the deliberate placement of the Tanpura to the soft, ambient lighting, is calibrated to calm the mind and heighten your receptivity to the Ragas.
We established this space in Rohini because we believe the soul of Hindustani music does not thrive in sterile auditoriums. It requires intimacy and the direct line of sight between the guru’s fingers on the instrument and the listener’s heart. Our studio is a living expression of the Guru-Shishya tradition. The walls hold portraits of the masters we honor, and we maintain an altar where instruments are treated with the reverence due to a deity.
Everything here is intentional. We utilize traditional floor seating to bring the artist and the audience into the same emotional plane, removing the distance that often separates performer from rasika (music lover). Whether you are attending a private baithak or joining our regular classes, the acoustics are tuned specifically for the natural, unamplified resonance of vocal and instrumental music. This is a shoe-free, vegetarian-friendly zone, maintained with a strict code of conduct to ensure that the sanctity of the Raga remains undisturbed by the chaos of the city outside.
