Private Hindustani Classical Baithaks in Delhi
Experience the quiet power of Hindustani classical music in an intimate setting, where every note and emotion is felt up close.
The essence of a performance lies in its emotional depth, or 'bhaav'. Here, Smt. Tanushree Kashyap Sharma is completely immersed in her vocal recital, a moment of pure surrender to the raga during one of our baithaks.
We celebrate India's vibrant festivals with music. This clip captures the joyous spirit of a Holi-themed baithak, where we explored traditional compositions dedicated to the festival of colors with our community of artists and students.
This is the view from our intimate baithak at the Swarveni academy. The artists and the audience share the same space, creating a powerful, collective energy that makes the music a truly shared experience.
A glimpse of me, Ashish Narayan Tripathi, presenting a composition in Raga Kedar. It is my privilege to share the teachings of my gurus and the traditions of our gharana in these sessions.
The tabla is the heartbeat of a performance. Here, a skilled percussionist is captured in a moment of intense focus, laying down the rhythmic foundation that breathes life into the melody.
We are guided by the wisdom of the great masters. The words of the legendary Pt. Rajan Mishra ji remind us that music is a spiritual journey, a philosophy we strive to embody in every note.
It is our tradition to honor the artists who grace our baithaks. Here, we are sharing a moment of fellowship with Sarod maestro Sh. Arnab Bhattacharya and tabla artist Sh. Kuldeep Mishra after their soulful performance.
About Featured
These are not stage performances. We follow the tradition of the baithak, where the artist sits among the audience, not above them. This setup allows for a genuine exchange of rasa, or emotion, between the vocalist or instrumentalist and the listeners. Whether in a home or our studio space, we remove the distance between performer and guest, often allowing for questions and discussions about the ragas being performed.
The core of our approach is the Guru-Shishya parampara, where music is treated as a spiritual journey rather than entertainment. In these gatherings, you will not find a high stage or complex lighting rigs. Instead, we prioritize the acoustic quality of the room and the connection between the musicians and the audience.
How We Arrange Your Baithak
When we organize a concert, we focus on the specific mood you want to create. This includes selecting the right lead artist—be it a vocalist, sitar player, or sarod exponent—and pairing them with professional accompanists for tabla and harmonium who understand the nuances of the raga. We manage all technical aspects, including the sound engineering, to ensure the instruments sound as they should without overwhelming the space.
Where and How
- Swarveni Academy: Our Rohini space is designed as a 'Swar Mandir,' a shoe-free zone with traditional floor seating, ambient lighting, and marigold flowers. It is optimized for 30 to 35 guests.
- Your Venue: We can bring this same atmosphere to your home or any location in Delhi NCR. We handle the transport of delicate instruments and the setup of the sound system.
We believe that for the music to be effective, the listener must be engaged. Our performers are prepared to introduce the Ragas, explain the compositions, and bridge the gap between technical skill and listener appreciation. If you are looking for a musical gathering that respects the tradition and offers a chance to listen deeply, we are here to help.
