Music is a sadhana, a spiritual journey. Join my Gurukul to learn the traditional way, where every note is sung with soul and purpose.

A glimpse from a concert where I presented Raga Kedar. As a guru, performing is also a form of teaching, demonstrating the depth and structure that we practice in our daily riyaz.

Learning 'taal' is fundamental to our music. Here, I am guiding my students through rhythmic cycles, ensuring their foundation in both melody and rhythm is strong. This is a fun, interactive moment from our classroom.

Practice, or 'riyaz', is the backbone of a musician's life. In this classroom session, students are fully engaged in their vocal exercises, building the vocal discipline required for classical singing.

A moment from our class where we turn practice into a joyful challenge. I often ask my students to "Guess the Raga" to sharpen their listening skills and deepen their understanding of melodic structures.

This is what dedicated 'palta riyaz' looks like. Students are practicing scale patterns together, building vocal agility and control. The collective energy in the room makes the practice more powerful.

Practice makes you perfect. Here, students are seen in a moment of quiet concentration during a practice session at the academy, each one on their own journey of musical discovery.

A typical day at Swarveni Music Academy is filled with the sound of music. This is a view of one of our group classes, where students of different levels learn from and inspire one another.

Students learning the intricacies of Raga Puriya, a majestic evening raga. We delve into the theory and feeling of each raga, understanding its unique character and emotional landscape.

Music is not always confined to the classroom. This was an impromptu ghazal session where I shared a light classical piece with my students, reminding them that music breathes in moments of spontaneity and togetherness.

Sharing a beloved ghazal by the great Jagjit Singh ji. While our foundation is in classical music, we also explore semi-classical forms like ghazals to understand the application of 'bhaav' in different genres.

About The Guru-Shishya Parampara: My Teaching Method

My teaching method is built on the Guru-Shishya Parampara, which means we prioritize discipline and personal connection over high-speed volume. When you join, expect to sit in a traditional 'Baithak' setup, where you will not just learn the notes of a Raga, but also the 'bhaav' (emotion) that gives it life. This is not about finishing a syllabus quickly; it is about building a foundation that stays with you.

At Swarveni Music Academy, the learning process is designed for those who wish to go beyond the surface of Hindustani classical music. We follow a structured approach that respects the lineage of our elders while making it accessible for modern students.

The Learning Environment

Whether you join our offline sessions at Rohini or our online classes, the core philosophy remains the same. In our offline Baithak-style batches, you learn in a small, focused group of 6-10 students. This environment is essential for 'Guru-Shishya' learning, as it allows me to provide individual feedback on your pitch (Sur) and breath control during every session. We sit on the floor in a traditional setting to ensure we remain grounded in the culture of our art.

What We Focus On

  • Swaras & Taalas: We develop your voice slowly. There are no shortcuts. We start with the basics—Sargam and Alankars—and move into complex Ragas once your foundation is steady.
  • Emotional Depth (Bhaav): Many students can sing the notes, but few can sing the emotion. I constantly ask, "Is there feeling in this line?" We practice Thumris, Ghazals, and traditional Bandishes specifically to help you master the art of conveying emotion through your voice.
  • Holistic Growth: You are not just a student; you are part of a community. We encourage students to participate in our Swarveni Utsav and monthly Baithaks. Observing senior artists and performing in front of a live audience is a non-negotiable part of your development.

For the Serious Learner

Our curriculum follows the Prayag Sangeet Samiti syllabus for those interested in certifications, but we also cater to those who simply wish to pursue music for their own spiritual fulfillment. Whether you are a beginner taking your first steps in music or an advanced student preparing for reality shows, the focus remains on 'riyaz' (practice) and respect for the tradition.
