Our Swar Mandir: The Learning Space
This is not just a classroom; it is a sacred space for sadhana. We have designed our Gurukul in Rohini and Mainpuri to help you find focus, reverence, and a deep connection to the art of Hindustani classical music.
A glimpse into our 'Swar Mandir'. The tanpuras stand ready, and the portraits of our gurus watch over us. This is a sacred space where we connect with music and our tradition.
Our academy is filled with music in every corner. From the tanpura and tabla to the portraits of legends on the wall, the entire environment is created to inspire a life filled with music.
About Our Swar Mandir: The Learning Space
You will not find rows of desks here. We practice in the traditional Baithak style, sitting on floor carpets, which fosters a direct connection with the music and each other. This setup, surrounded by portraits of the masters, creates the silence and focus required to understand the subtle 12 swaras.
Our Swar Mandir is an extension of our practice. Whether you join us at our Rohini academy or our Mainpuri Gurukul, the environment is crafted to minimize distractions so you can engage deeply with the music.
The Environment for Learning
The room is sound-treated and air-conditioned to ensure that even subtle variations in pitch remain audible. We believe that music is a visual and environmental experience as much as an auditory one. By maintaining a space that honors the Guru-Shishya parampara, we help students shift their mindset the moment they step through the door.
Traditional Baithak Setup
Our classes follow the Baithak format, where students sit together on the floor. This is essential for Hindustani music because it removes the barriers between the instructor and the learner. It allows for the collective energy required to sustain a long practice session or a musical dialogue. We provide the instruments, including classroom Harmoniums and electronic Tanpuras, so you only need to bring your dedication.
Access to the Masters
The walls are adorned with the portraits of legendary musicians who have shaped our tradition. These are not just decorations; they serve as a constant reminder of the lineage we are part of. Being in this environment provides a context for the music that you cannot get from online-only or generic classroom settings. It reminds us that we are part of a continuous, living history.
