Our Community and Yoga Shala in Powai
More than just a studio, Svādhyāya is a homecoming. Our Powai shala is a space to breathe, reflect, and grow alongside a tribe that supports your journey, on and off the mat.

About Our Community, Our Shala
When you walk into our Powai shala, you will not just see perfect poses. You will see real people, some laughing through what we call 'screaming thighs' during a challenging hold, and others finding quiet during pranayama. We keep our groups intimate enough that I can see your alignment and give you real adjustments, rather than just shouting cues from the front of the room.
A Space for Your Homecoming
Svādhyāya was born out of a desire for a space that feels like a home, not a teacher factory. We are located in the heart of Powai, Mumbai, with one of the largest shalas in the area. This isn't just about rolling out a mat; it is about the community that gathers here. Whether you are a beginner or a long-time practitioner, our tribe is here to hold space for you.
How We Practice
Our classes are rooted in Hatha and Ashtanga Vinyasa, but we leave room for the 'in-between' moments. We believe that your body’s resistance—the tight hamstrings, the shaky elbows—is where the real lesson lies. We use props intelligently and provide hands-on guidance to make the practice safe and accessible for everyone.
Beyond the Asanas
We don't just focus on the physical. Our community gathers for:
- Nada Yoga Workshops: Diving into the healing vibrations of singing bowls.
- Community Celebrations: From International Yoga Day gatherings to rainy day sessions, we find reasons to connect.
- Specialized Learning: Whether it is inversions, arm balances, or diving into the Gita, we create a supportive environment to explore your limits.
At Svādhyāya, we count, we breathe, and we move together. If you are looking for a place where you are seen, heard, and encouraged to be exactly who you are, join us for a session.
Svādhyāya by Devyani
I started Svādhyāya because I wanted a space that felt like a homecoming, not just another studio. Here, we move, breathe, and reflect together. It is not just about the asanas; it is about meeting yourself on the mat.
