From your first bar to advanced swirl designs, I teach the science behind making soap that is actually good for your skin. Join my Bangalore studio or online sessions to start creating.

Check out the beautiful skincare products made during a recent workshop. We held a hands-on session where students learned to make lotions, body butters, scrubs, and more.

Here is a list of my upcoming professional soap and skincare workshops. I offer everything from a full-day cold process course to shorter sessions on scrubs, lotions, and shampoo bars.

My Professional Soap Design Course is for those who want to take their cold process soap making to the next level. This is a live, hands-on course held in Indiranagar, Bangalore.

I believe everyone should know how to make or choose good handmade soap. What you put on your skin is just as important as what you eat, so it's vital to use clean, natural products.

A throwback to my first soap batches in 2016 versus just five months later. The difference is the result of digging deep into the science of soap making, which is the foundation I teach in my introductory course.

This tutorial on the hanger swirl technique is for makers looking to scale up. I demonstrate how to make a large 5kg batch of designer soap without compromising the intricate design.

Another look at the beautiful results from my large-batch hanger swirl tutorial. As a bonus, I also share my popular Hempseed oil soap recipe in this course.

My Panchamrutam soap has been a top seller, and the tutorial for it is my most popular course. I'm thrilled that this traditional, nourishing formulation has been so well received.

Coffee and soap making are the best therapy! In this online workshop, I teach the most efficient technique for incorporating coffee into a creamy, exfoliating cold process soap.

Making soap with beer can be daunting, but it's worth it for the luxurious, bubbly lather. My workshop demystifies the process, teaching you how to choose the right beer and technique.

About Learn the Craft: Workshops & Tutorials

Most students come to me thinking soap making is just about mixing oils, but it is really about understanding the chemistry of saponification. In my workshops, you will not just watch; you will handle the lye, manage temperatures, and learn why your batch might trace too fast or separate. We get hands-on with specific ingredients—like working with fruit purees or beer—so you walk away knowing exactly how to troubleshoot your own batches at home.

Why Learn From Scratch

I believe soap making is a life skill. Just like cooking, knowing what goes into your skincare matters. Commercial bars can be harsh, stripping your skin of natural moisture and causing issues like dryness or irritation. When you learn to formulate, you control the ingredients, ensuring everything on your skin is clean, plant-based, and nourishing.

What We Cover in the Studio

Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to advance your skills, my workshops are designed to get you comfortable with the process.

  • Cold Process Basics: We start with safety, lye safety, and understanding oil properties. You will learn to formulate from scratch, not just follow a recipe.
  • Advanced Techniques: For those ready to level up, I teach design-focused modules like the hanger swirl, kaleidoscope pull-through designs, and how to work with challenging additives like red wine or coffee without the stress.
  • Skincare Formulation: Soap is just the start. My sessions also cover how to make emulsified lotions, body butters, and shampoo bars that actually hold up in our humid Bangalore weather.

Practical Learning

I keep my group sizes small so I can answer your questions in real-time. If you cannot visit my studio in Shanti Nagar, I have a library of over 20 recorded and live online courses. We focus on the science—understanding why a specific butter creates a harder bar or how to get that perfect, bubbly lather—so you can continue experimenting long after the class ends.

If you have a specific technique you want to master, or if you want to understand how to incorporate local ingredients like elaneer or ghee into your soap, let's discuss which module fits your current skill level.

I am Aruna, and I started this journey in my kitchen nine years ago with a steel bowl and a lot of trial and error. Today, my studio is where I teach my students the same techniques I use for my own soaps, from basic formulations to complex hanger swirls.
