A quick look at the five soap cakes I made for my series, all lined up before the final cut. Each one is made using the cold process method and is full of skin-nourishing oils.
About Artisan Soap Cakes
These soap cakes are 100% skin-safe, not dessert. I handcraft every layer using the traditional cold process method, which means they are aged for weeks to reach the perfect hardness. You get a rich, moisturizing lather from a triple butter blend of shea, cocoa, and mango oils, making them as nourishing as they are eye-catching.
While the realistic piping and chocolate-like embeds get all the attention, the science inside is just as serious. I formulate these using the cold process method, which preserves the integrity of the plant-based oils and butters.
The Process Behind The Layers
Each cake goes through a multi-step creation process. First, I prepare the base with a high concentration of shea, cocoa, and mango butter to ensure the soap feels substantial. Then come the layers. Whether it is a mocha-inspired brown pour or a vibrant citrus swirl, every stage requires precise timing. The 'frosting' is whipped soap, which I pipe by hand once the soap reaches the exact trace consistency.
Why Cold Process?
Unlike mass-produced soaps that use synthetic detergents, my cold process bars are true soaps. They cure for four to six weeks in my Shanti Nagar studio to evaporate excess water, resulting in a bar that lasts longer in your shower and creates a dense, creamy lather. You will find no parabens or phthalates here, just skin-loving ingredients like French clays, fruit purees, and essential oils.
A Note on Realism
I often have to remind people: please do not take a bite. These are designed to fool the eye, from the 'coffee bean' toppers to the comic-style outlines on my challenge-winning designs. If you are looking for a unique gift or a treat for your own bathroom, these cakes bring a bit of whimsy to the daily wash. If you want to learn how I pipe these, check out my workshops where I teach the techniques from scratch.
Suffuse
I’m Aruna, and my Shanti Nagar studio is where I balance the science of saponification with the art of dessert-inspired design. I’m just a maker who believes your skin deserves better than mass-produced detergent bars. When I’m not testing new swirling techniques, I’m usually taking care of my rescue cats or teaching someone how to pipe their first soap frosting.
