Inside Studio PKA: Our Creative Workspace and Design Process
Architecture is not just about the final building. It is about the messy, honest process that happens at the drawing board. Step inside The Loft to see how our team collaborates and brings ideas to life.
Hey, welcome to Studio PKA. Let me show you what a day here looks like. From morning light hitting the brick walls to team huddles and sketching sessions, this is a peek into our creative process.
Morning light is essential to our studio's mood. We love how the sun hits the concrete, brick, and wood, setting a calm and focused tone for the day ahead.
Team huddles are the first thing we do. We chat, plan, and make sure everyone is on the same page before diving into the day's work. Collaboration is at the core of everything we do.
Brainstorming time. Sketches fly, ideas bounce around, and sometimes we even run off to a site to see things in real life. This is where the creative energy of the studio comes alive.
A typical hectic, sunny winter afternoon at The Loft. The studio is buzzing with activity as the team works on various projects, all within our adaptive reuse space.
And yes, we celebrate. Small wins, big wins, birthdays. These moments of coffee, cake, and laughter are what make our team a family.
Escaping the city for a team offsite to visit The Mango House and The Shell in Alibag. It's important for us to experience our own architecture together and reconnect with the principles that guide our practice.

A moment of relaxation for the team at The Shell. Taking time away from the studio to enjoy each other's company and the spaces we've created is a vital part of our culture.

About Studio Life, Talks & Collaborations
You will not find a sterile boardroom here. Our 'Thinker's Corner' is where the actual work happens—sketches get passed around, team huddles resolve site issues, and even our wooden hat stand, Alfred, plays a part in keeping our space functional. When you hire us, this is the collaborative, hands-on environment that shapes your project from concept to execution.
Architecture for us is a conversation that begins with a pencil sketch and ends with a finely crafted detail. We believe that a design studio should be as dynamic as the projects it creates. Our home, The Loft in South Bombay, is a testament to this belief—a century-old heritage space that we adapted to serve our modern needs.
The Creative Process
We do not work in isolation. Our process is rooted in team huddles where ideas are stress-tested, and site visits that get us out of the studio and onto the ground. Whether we are planning an adaptive reuse project or designing a contemporary home, the focus remains on honest materials like exposed brick and concrete. We involve our craftsmen at every stage, ensuring that the 'makers' are just as much a part of the story as the architects.
Beyond the Desk
Our studio life extends beyond our walls. We frequently take the team out for 'offsites' to our past projects, like The Mango House in Alibag or The Shell, to reconnect with the principles that guide our practice. It is about experiencing the architecture we create, not just drawing it. We also engage with the wider design community, participating in festivals like Kala Ghoda to share our vision for urban regeneration and heritage conservation.
Ultimately, we build to create spaces that feel human. We avoid the urge to create 'loud' design, preferring a layered approach that respects the context of the city. If you value a process that is as transparent as the materials we use, we would love to discuss your vision.
Studio PKA
I am Puran from Studio PKA. We treat every project like a conversation, whether it is designing a home or hosting a design talk at our Loft. We are a team that loves the messy, collaborative process of building just as much as the final result.
