Inside Studio PKA: Our Creative Workspace and Design Process

Architecture for us is a conversation that begins with a pencil sketch and ends with a finely crafted detail. We believe that a design studio should be as dynamic as the projects it creates. Our home, The Loft in South Bombay, is a testament to this belief—a century-old heritage space that we adapted to serve our modern needs.

The Creative Process

We do not work in isolation. Our process is rooted in team huddles where ideas are stress-tested, and site visits that get us out of the studio and onto the ground. Whether we are planning an adaptive reuse project or designing a contemporary home, the focus remains on honest materials like exposed brick and concrete. We involve our craftsmen at every stage, ensuring that the 'makers' are just as much a part of the story as the architects.

Beyond the Desk

Our studio life extends beyond our walls. We frequently take the team out for 'offsites' to our past projects, like The Mango House in Alibag or The Shell, to reconnect with the principles that guide our practice. It is about experiencing the architecture we create, not just drawing it. We also engage with the wider design community, participating in festivals like Kala Ghoda to share our vision for urban regeneration and heritage conservation.
