Come get your hands dirty, clear your head, and discover the joy of making something from scratch. Perfect for beginners, groups, or anyone looking for a mindful escape in the city.

We host special one-day workshops on occasions, offering a three-hour introduction to the world of clay. It's an immersive experience covering both hand-modelling and the basics of the potter's wheel, perfect for a unique day out.

In our beginner workshops, you'll learn fundamental techniques like coiling. This video shows a student carefully building up the walls of her terracotta cup, one coil at a time, learning to control the form and texture.

A glimpse from one of our weekend workshops where I demonstrate basic hand-building techniques. It's all about relaxing, observing, and letting the process guide you. These sessions are designed to be immersive and welcoming for everyone.

The first step in any pottery journey is getting a feel for the material. Here, a participant in a team-building workshop holds a simple lump of clay, ready to begin the process of shaping it into something new.

Look at the wonderful textures on this pinch pot! Created during a corporate retreat for the Teach for India team, this piece shows how simple techniques can lead to beautiful, personalized results in just one session.

It was an honor to host a private workshop for the LSE Alumni Association. These exclusive sessions are a great way for groups to connect and share a mindful, creative experience in the studio.

Wedging is where we prepare the clay, removing air bubbles and creating a uniform consistency. It's a physical, rhythmic process that is fundamental to good pottery, and it's one of the first things you'll learn at the studio.

About Get Your Hands Dirty: One-Day Workshops

Expect a mix of focused instruction and a bit of messy, fun chaos. In these three hours, we do not just focus on the outcome. We focus on the sensation of the clay, the rhythm of wedging, and the grounding feeling of having your hands covered in earth. You will leave with your own creations and, usually, a smile that lasts a lot longer than the clay under your nails.

These workshops are designed to be an accessible entry point into the world of ceramics. You do not need any prior experience to join. We start with the fundamentals of preparation, specifically wedging, which is the rhythmic process of removing air bubbles to make the clay uniform. It is a very physical, almost meditative task that sets the tone for the session.

From there, we explore hand-building techniques like pinching and coiling, which allow you to shape clay directly with your fingers. This is where you really start to understand the texture and limitations of the material. Finally, we move to the potter's wheel. While mastering the wheel takes practice, our instructors guide you through the basics of centering and pulling a simple wall. We keep the atmosphere light and high-energy, ensuring that whether you are here for a birthday, a corporate team-building event, or just a Saturday afternoon of solo exploration, you feel comfortable.

Everything you need—clay, tools, and aprons—is provided. The workshop price covers the bisque firing of two of your selected pieces, which will be ready for collection after they have dried and gone through the kiln. These sessions are about the joy of making and the community we build in the studio, not about technical perfection.

I am Rashi. I have been living in clay since 2004, and my studio, Karva, is a space for us to slow down and create together. It is not about being perfect here; it is about the connection we find when we get our hands dirty, laugh, and just make.
