Building spaces that breathe, using natural materials and local craft to create homes that feel inherently alive.

Our Kaattu Veedu Guesthouse in Hosur was designed to be in dialogue with its surroundings. The structure rises from the earth, with high ceilings and large windows that frame the tranquil landscape.

We were thrilled to have this project featured on ArchDaily, where you can read more about its sustainable design philosophy.

We used sunlight as a design tool. Light filtering through the tiled roof creates a warm, ever-changing canvas of light and shadow on the earthy walls and Athangudi tile floor.

The bedroom is a serene space with exposed earth walls and a large doorway that opens to the outdoors, blurring the boundary between inside and out.

The shaded verandah is the heart of the home, featuring a simple swing and patterned brick walls. It’s a perfect spot to relax and connect with nature.

The ceiling in this area is made with terracotta pots used as infills in the concrete slab. This technique reduces concrete usage and provides natural insulation.

This bathroom opens into a private courtyard, creating a unique indoor-outdoor experience. The ceiling features terracotta pot fillers, and the walls are made of stabilized earth blocks from the site.

Sustainable Rammed Earth Homes

This is the heart of a home, a traditional *thotti mane* or courtyard, built right in the middle of bustling Basavanagudi. It pulls the sky and rain inside, creating a living, breathing space that connects the family with the elements. The exposed laterite stone wall and classic rain chains complete this tranquil urban oasis.8
I believe even bricks can sing. This is the oculus of an ornamental brick dome, a geometric poem that plays with light and shadow. Inspired by timeless techniques, this structure for a meditation center is designed to create a sense of harmony and quiet reverence.
The beauty of simplicity, or *Saralatheya sobagu*, is captured in this corner of the Doddaballapura mud house. The walls are finished with a simple mud plaster, the door is reclaimed wood, and the light filtering through stained glass brings a quiet warmth, proving that a home doesn't need to be loud to be beautiful.
A home should flow. Here, the dining area opens to a courtyard on one side and a sit-out on the other, blurring the lines between inside and out. The archway frames the kitchen, which features an accent wall with a Lohi lime finish, creating layers of texture and warmth.

The renovated and extended residence for Sunith and Shruti in Hyderabad. The new facade features a striated pattern of alternating brick courses, a design choice that was both an aesthetic decision and a practical solution to material shortages during the pandemic.43
A before and after view of the Hyderabad residence. We chose to renovate and extend the existing structure rather than demolish it, significantly reducing waste and preserving the building's embodied energy while completely transforming its appearance and functionality.
The new staircase in the Hyderabad home is a central feature connecting the floors. By replacing an older, bulkier staircase, we opened up the interior volume, creating a sense of spaciousness and improving the flow between living areas.

A house takes shape with walls of natural, random rubble stone. Here, workers are installing the wooden framework for a traditional sloping roof, a process that requires precision and teamwork.7
