Sustainable Rammed Earth Homes

We believe houses should breathe. From rammed earth walls to traditional Thappi lime finishes, we build homes that connect deeply with nature, using local materials and time-honored techniques.

From site visits to finished structures, this is a glimpse into our process. We build with rammed earth, create recharge wells for rainwater, and construct unique roofs, all while working in harmony with the local flora and fauna.

We can't help but celebrate! The team dances in front of a newly revealed rammed earth wall. This beautiful, naturally textured feature wall is the result of hours of planning, mixing, and pounding, and we couldn't be happier with the result.

We love to get our hands dirty. Our entire team, and often our clients, get involved in every stage of the building-with-mud process, from sifting earth to pounding it into formwork.

Things don’t always go as planned. When we de-shuttered this rammed earth wall, we found some imperfections. But our team rolled up our sleeves, repaired the damage, and embraced the imperfectly perfect beauty of natural materials.

A glimpse of the Rajasthani Lime Plaster workshop we hosted. Here, a participant is learning the 'Thappi' technique, applying a mix of surkhi and lime to a wall.

The process of applying Thappi lime plaster. This video shows the careful application of the natural mixture before it is beaten with a wooden tool to create a unique, durable finish.

The beauty of lime plastering is that it's completely natural. These breathable walls are carbon-neutral and eco-friendly, reviving techniques tested over centuries by our ancestors.

A close-up of the Thappi lime plastering process. The technique creates breathable, carbon-neutral walls that are both beautiful and environmentally friendly.

The 'Thappi' tool gives this Rajasthani lime plaster technique its name. The gentle beating action helps the lime set, improves adhesion, and creates a distinctive textured finish.

This video shows the 'Thak Thak Thak' of the Thappi tool against the lime plaster. This action is key to the technique, helping to set the lime and repair any small cracks as it dries.

About Our Signature: Earth-Built Homes

Working with natural materials is a lesson in patience. When we de-shutter a rammed earth wall, we might find small imperfections. We do not hide them. Our team repairs them by hand, ensuring the wall remains breathable and structurally sound while celebrating the raw, textured beauty that only earth can provide.

Rammed earth is more than a wall; it acts as a thermal battery for your home. By compacting local soil, sand, and lime into formwork, we create structures that stay cool in Bengaluru summers and cozy during the rains. We keep site waste to a minimum, often integrating gabion walls made from debris and upcycled vintage doors to bring history into new spaces.

Empowerment is at the heart of our practice. Our all-women mason team handles everything from site preparation to complex masonry. Their philosophy—that there is nothing women cannot achieve—is literally built into our structures. We ensure our team is trained and upskilled, challenging the norms of the construction industry.

We avoid cement where possible, favoring ancient lime plastering techniques like Thappi. The rhythmic 'thak thak thak' of the wooden beater is a constant soundtrack on our sites, signaling the hardening and strengthening of the lime. This process creates carbon-neutral, breathable walls that naturally regulate humidity. This is not just building; it is a revival of heritage construction methods that prioritize longevity over speed.
