We believe materials have a voice. From clay blocks to rough-cut stone, we let the building speak through its textures to create a room with life.

A staircase viewed through a door frame, appearing like a framed piece of art. This composition highlights the raw beauty of the stone steps and the massive boulder at their base, celebrating the power of natural materials.

A circular staircase under construction, showing the combination of rough stone steps and a curved brick wall for the lift well. This image reveals the raw structure and the beauty of these fundamental building materials working together.

The entrance to a home named 'Samskruthi'. The rough-hewn stone compound wall and a gate made of unfinished wood logs create a rustic and earthy welcome, grounded in natural textures.

An upside-down view of a staircase reveals its intricate construction. The warm wood of the steps is complemented by the yellow-painted metal framework, showcasing how different composite materials can create a visually striking structure.

A close-up of a wall during construction, showing the "break joint" pattern of hollow clay blocks. This detail highlights the technical side of using sustainable materials and the clean, linear aesthetic they can produce.

A macro shot focusing on the rough texture of a concrete wall, with glass blocks providing a smooth, translucent contrast in the background. It’s a study in how different material surfaces interact with light.

This space features walls made of massive, rough-cut stone blocks and a ceiling constructed with a filler slab technique using clay pots. The dramatic lighting emphasizes the textures and creates an almost cavern-like, ancient feel.

Another perspective of the same stone and filler slab room. This view reinforces the powerful, monumental quality of the space and the interplay between the raw stone walls and the patterned, earthy ceiling.

About Honest Materials: Earth, Wood & Stone

When you touch a wall made of wire-cut bricks or walk on raw stone, you immediately sense the difference. We focus on materials that breathe, utilizing techniques like the filler slab to reduce heat and concrete dependency. It is not just about aesthetics; it is about how these natural surfaces regulate the temperature of your home, keeping it cool while adding a distinct, earthy character to every room.

Architecture That Feels Real

Sustainability is not a buzzword for us. It is the core of our practice. We avoid synthetic finishes and mass-produced materials in favor of local resources like Sadarahalli stone, reclaimed wood, and terracotta.

The Science of Earthy Design

  • Filler Slab Technique: We use clay pots within the concrete slab to reduce the volume of concrete required. This creates a visually intricate ceiling and improves thermal insulation, keeping your living space comfortable throughout the year.
  • Hollow Clay Blocks: Used in our walls, these provide natural airflow and act as a thermal barrier against the harsh sun. The 'break joint' patterns we create are functional, allowing the wall to expand and contract naturally without cracking.
  • Raw Stone & Textures: Whether it is rough-cut stone for compound walls or granite for flooring, we highlight the raw state of the material rather than polishing it to a synthetic shine.

Why Choose Natural Materials?

Using earth, wood, and stone is about longevity and interaction. These materials age gracefully, gaining character over time instead of deteriorating. We design spaces that welcome the sun and breeze, ensuring your home remains an extension of the nature around it. If you want a space that feels grounded, warm, and distinctly 'alive,' this approach is for you.

I am Chaitra. My team and I at Studio Bhoomi believe that a building should be as alive as the garden around it. We are usually found scouting for local stone or upcycled wood, aiming to build spaces where the architecture feels warm, honest, and just a little bit playful.
