Hand-building allows for incredible freedom in form. This video shows the process of coiling and shaping clay by hand to build a pot, a fundamental technique we teach in our hand-building workshops.
About Pottery Workshops for All
Keep in mind that when you create a piece here, the work does not end when you leave the studio. We guide you through the shaping, but the chemical transformation happens in our kiln. Because we handle the bisque and glaze firing for your pieces, your creation will be ready for you to pick up in about 3 to 4 weeks.
Your Creative Process
Pottery is a practice of patience. Whether you are signing up for a single-day wheel throwing session or a longer course, the process remains the same: you sculpt, we handle the technical heavy lifting. We fire your work in our electric kilns to ensure durability, which is why there is a 3 to 4-week turnaround time for your finished pieces.
What You Will Learn
Our workshops cover the fundamentals of working with clay, focusing on connection and technique rather than just the final object.
- Wheel Throwing: Learn to center the clay, pull walls, and shape vessels on the electric wheel.
- Hand-Building: Explore coiling, pinching, and slab work to create unique forms without a wheel.
- Glazing: Choose from our palette to add the final touch to your pottery.
Why Learn With Us
We built this studio because good materials and guidance were once hard to find in Mumbai. We want to remove those barriers. Our studio in Byculla is a space for everyone, from absolute beginners who have never touched clay to experienced potters looking for a community. You will find a space that values process over perfection, where you can learn the 'riyaaz' of pottery in a shared, inclusive environment.
