Public and Institutional Architecture Design
We design buildings that serve the community. From educational institutions to recreational clubs, our approach focuses on architecture that fosters interaction and strengthens the social fabric of its surroundings.
An overview of the Koramangala Club annexe, a 100-meter-long addition that provides new recreational facilities. The design mirrors the existing block structure to create a seamless integration between old and new.
A view from a corridor in the Koramangala Club annexe, looking into a lush central courtyard. We designed the building to forge new relationships with these green spaces, creating visual connections and moments of tranquility.
The interplay of canopies, bridges, and greenery between the new annexe and the existing buildings at the Koramangala Club. These transitional spaces are designed to encourage movement and informal social encounters.
A wide corridor overlooking the club's courtyard, where patterned floor tiles and hanging plants create a pleasant, shaded walkway. These spaces, though not defined by a specific function, are vital to the project's atmosphere.
The entrance pathway to the Koramangala Club annexe. The design uses landscaping and a transparent canopy to create a welcoming approach that blurs the line between the building and its natural surroundings.
Students gathered on the tiered brick seating at a school we designed in Mandya. This space serves as an outdoor classroom and social hub, demonstrating our goal to create architecture that actively engages its users.

About Public & Institutional Spaces
When we approach public or institutional projects, we prioritize the in-between spaces—the corridors, lobbies, and courtyards that often define the atmosphere more than the primary function. For instance, in our Koramangala Club annexe project, the design mirrors the existing block structure not just for symmetry, but to create seamless transitional zones where social encounters happen naturally.
Our Approach to Institutional Design
Public architecture requires a balance between functionality and community engagement. We believe that an institutional building should do more than house a specific activity; it should facilitate movement, encourage social overlap, and age gracefully.
The Pedagogy of Space
In our educational projects, such as the school in Mandya, we move beyond standard layouts. We treat the building as a rural insert that engages with the local context. By incorporating tiered brick seating and perforated screens, we create thresholds where the school connects with the adjacent public grounds, turning a place of learning into a community hub. We focus on durable, low-maintenance materials like exposed brick and granite that withstand heavy footfall while keeping operational costs low.
Recreational and Club Infrastructure
For recreational spaces like the Koramangala Club, our master planning emphasizes the connection between old and new structures. We analyze the existing site topography and sun-path to ensure that additions like new annexes improve the overall quality of the campus rather than just increasing square footage. This involves:
- Strategic Massing: Coordinating column grids and vertical circulation to ensure the facility can handle peak traffic without bottlenecks.
- Passive Cooling: Integrating shading devices and ventilation strategies to minimize heat gain, especially in Bangalore’s climate.
- Public Realms: Designing courtyards and foyers as primary spaces for interaction, ensuring that 'non-functional' areas contribute to the building's identity.
Whether designing a campus master plan or a single institutional wing, we prioritize structural massing that respects the surrounding environment while providing a clear, logical framework for the users.
