Master Poi Spinning with Guided Flow Sessions
Poi is my movement medicine. It is how I find clarity and joy in motion. Whether you are curious about the basics or want to refine your technical flow, I am here to help you get started.
My philosophy is to move in space with minimum waste and maximum joy. Spinning poi in an open field at sunset is the perfect expression of that idea. It's just me, my props, and the rhythm of my breath.
Even when life gives you a bucket full of lemons, you can find a way to flow. This practice session with my sock poi was my way of making lemonade and finding a moment of peace.
That feeling when you unlock a new move during a random practice session is golden. This was one of those moments, a small breakthrough that felt like a huge victory.
I love learning from other artists in the flow community. This move was inspired by some incredible spinners I follow. It’s a reminder that we are all connected and constantly learning from each other.
This was the very first poi combination I ever created myself. It felt like a huge milestone. Flow arts is a journey of discovery, not just of movement, but of your own creativity.
A little poi practice in the park. Notice how my eyebrows get thicker by the end of the video! It's funny the little things you notice when you're just having fun and not taking yourself too seriously.
The secret to flow is to have fun. It's easy to get caught up in getting a trick right, but when you let go and just enjoy the movement, that's when the real magic happens.
A twilight flow session on a quiet street. The changing light of the evening sky adds a beautiful backdrop to the patterns of the poi. These are the moments I truly cherish.
Just me and my poi in my happy zone. There's a simple joy in spinning, a feeling of being completely present in the moment. It's a feeling I hope everyone can experience.
An evening session in the park, just practicing the basics. Consistent practice, even when it's just for a few minutes, is what builds a strong foundation for your flow.
About Poi Spinning
Many students get frustrated because they jump straight into complex patterns without mastering the basics of grip and timing. In my sessions, we start with soft practice poi to build your confidence and fix your posture first. Once you understand the mechanics, you stop getting tangled, and the movement becomes an effortless, meditative dance rather than a struggle.
Why Poi Spinning?
Flow arts is more than just a skill; it is a way to shake off stress and reconnect with yourself. I see poi as a moving meditation. When you are spinning, your mind has to let go of its to-do list and focus entirely on the present moment. It is how I find my 'saans' (breath) amidst the busy days of parenthood.
My Approach to Teaching
I believe that simple moves done well look far more beautiful than fancy tricks performed with poor technique. Whether we meet in a quiet park in Bangalore or connect over a video call, we will break down the essential movements—grips, planes, and timing—that form the foundation of all flow arts.
What to Expect in a Session
- Foundation First: We work on posture and object manipulation, ensuring you understand how to control the poi rather than just letting it swing.
- Safe Space: I create a non-judgmental environment. Everyone has awkward moments when they start; I share mine, and we laugh through them.
- Progression: From basic weaves and reels to more intricate patterns, we go at your pace. If you are preparing for fire spinning, we ensure your technique is solid with practice props long before you add heat to the equation.
My goal is to give you a tool you can take home, practice on your own, and use to find your own flow state whenever you need it.
Stardust Flows
I’m Nishitha, and through my Stardust persona, I’ve turned movement into my own form of therapy. When I’m not juggling the beautiful chaos of #mamalife, I’m in the park or a studio, helping others find that same freedom in their own flow.
