Yoga goes beyond the mat, reaching into the science of the body and mind. Here, I share the foundational principles of Yog Chikitsa that transform a simple practice into a path of holistic recovery.

A guru's role is to impart knowledge. In this yoga therapy training session, I am explaining the deeper spiritual concepts that form the foundation of our practice, reminding my students that a teacher can be anyone or anything that provides wisdom.

Understanding the five Prana Vayus is fundamental to yoga therapy. This graphic illustrates the locations of Prana, Udana, Vyana, Samana, and Apana in the body, a core concept I teach for managing the body's vital energy.

Yoga is not something you do, it is a state you are in. In this talk, I explain the true meaning of yoga beyond asanas, emphasizing the critical role of Pranayama in nourishing the body and preparing the mind for meditation.

"Yogash chitta vritti nirodhah": Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind. This core sutra from Patanjali is the guiding principle of my teaching, and here I demonstrate a simple asana that helps prepare the body for this state of mental stillness.

A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. I teach my students that to achieve mental peace, we must first purify the body through a proper yogic *dinacharya* (daily routine) and *sattvik* diet, which I explain in this live online session.

My colleague, Dr. Kamlesh Mishra, explains the science behind a straight spine in yoga. Understanding the anatomy, like how the carotid artery supplies blood to the brain, is a key part of our medical yoga curriculum for teachers.

Hatha yoga is a powerful tool for purification. As this teaching explains, my classes focus on restructuring the flow of prana (life force energy) to bring control and balance to the body, a key skill for any yoga therapist.

A healthy spine is the foundation of a healthy life. This guide provides simple, actionable steps for maintaining spinal health, from posture correction to specific asanas like Bhujangasana, all of which are part of my therapeutic yoga classes.

Yoga is a powerful tool for managing chronic conditions like diabetes. Here, my colleague Dr. Janvi Mishra demonstrates specific asanas like Mandukasana and Dhanurasana that you will learn to teach for diabetes management.

About The Science & Philosophy of Healing

True healing begins when we understand the pranic (life force) currents within us. In my practice, we move beyond basic asana to study the Five Prana Vayus, which allows us to pinpoint imbalances in the body. If your practice leaves you feeling physically tired but mentally restless, it is likely because the pranic flow remains blocked.

Understanding the Root Cause

Many approach yoga as a physical workout, but in the tradition of Yog Chikitsa, asanas are merely the foundation. To truly heal, one must address the bimari ki jadd (root cause of disease). My philosophy is grounded in the belief that the body, mind, and soul are interconnected; if your diet (aahar) and daily habits (dinacharya) are misaligned, no amount of physical stretching will bring lasting peace.

Integrating Ancient Science

My curriculum bridges ancient Vedic texts with modern clinical understanding. We dive deep into:

  • Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras: We analyze the text not just for theory, but for its practical application in calming the chitta vrittis (fluctuations of the mind).
  • Pranayama & Energy: We study the five Vayus—Prana, Udana, Vyana, Samana, and Apana. Understanding these flows is critical for anyone looking to teach therapeutic yoga, as it dictates how we manage everything from chronic pain to anxiety.
  • Anatomy for Healers: It is not enough to instruct a pose. We learn why a straight spine is vital for blood supply to the brain, using X-ray reading basics to ensure our therapeutic adjustments are safe and effective.

From Practitioner to Therapist

This journey is for those who want to move from teaching movement to facilitating healing. By integrating Shatkarma (detoxification) and Nadi Parikshan (pulse diagnosis), we prepare students to assist others with ailments like slip disc, scoliosis, and hypertension. This is a path of sewa (selfless service). If you are ready to look beyond the surface of your practice, I invite you to study the science that makes yoga a complete medicine.
