Strength and flexibility are crucial for a dancer. Here, my students work together on their warm-up stretches, building the physical discipline that will support their artistic practice.
Our "tiny toots" class in Vasant Kunj, where the youngest dancers begin their journey. It's wonderful to see them take their first steps in Bharatanatyam with such enthusiasm.
A typical day in our Gurgaon studio, filled with the energy of learning. From basic postures to more complex movements, every class is a step forward in their dance education.
For me, teaching these young ones is a form of therapy. Their energy and eagerness to learn bring so much joy and remind me why I love what I do.
From focused practice to moments of rest and fun, our classes are a complete experience. This clip shows the students practicing their adavus and also includes our cool-down exercises.
A candid look at a practice session in our Vasant Kunj studio. You can see students working on their aramandi (the basic half-sitting posture) and receiving individual corrections.
The silhouette of a dancer practicing as the sun sets. These quiet moments of solitary practice, or 'sadhana', are just as important as the group classes.
I often bring the traditional gurukul system into my modern classroom. Here, we sit together to discuss the stories and theories behind the dance, creating a deeper connection to the art.
A compilation of moments from our classes, celebrating nine years of my dance school. It shows the progression from basic steps to more advanced practice, all filled with joy.
The spirit of togetherness in my class. Students practice together, help each other, and grow as a team, even before the teacher arrives.
About A Look Inside Our Classes
To ensure every student builds a safe foundation, we cap our batch sizes at 8 to 12 students. This limited ratio is deliberate; it allows me to provide individual physical corrections for your Araimandi (half-sit posture) and footwork in real-time. We train on professional sprung wooden flooring to protect your knees, because I believe dance should be a sustainable, lifelong practice, not a source of injury.
My approach to teaching Bharatanatyam is rooted in the discipline I absorbed from legends like Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan ji, but adapted for the modern student. When you join my class, we start with the fundamentals: body alignment, the geometry of Adavus, and the precision of Talam. We do not rush. I want you to understand the logic behind the movement, not just mimic a shape.
For my adult students, we integrate fitness conditioning in the first 20 minutes to build the necessary stamina, while focusing on Abhinaya (facial expression) as a tool for emotional release. It is not just about the stage performance; it is about the mental clarity you gain from the practice.
We also bring the ancient gurukul system into our current studios in Gurgaon and Vasant Kunj. This means that besides physical drilling, we discuss the Sanskrit literature behind our songs and the meaning of our Mudras. For those who cannot visit the studio, our online sessions are strictly limited to 6 students to ensure I can see your full body lines and offer the same vocal corrections I would in person. Whether you are a child picking up your first steps or an adult looking to reconnect with the art, my goal is to make sure you look forward to the class, not just tick it off a list.

My classes are designed so that the very thought of dance brings a smile to your face. I grew up learning from legends like Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan ji, and I carry that strict technical discipline into our sessions, but I pair it with a lot of heart. We do not just memorize hastas and steps; we work on the storytelling and emotions that make this art form so deeply personal.
