A curated look at my journey in Kathak—from traditional solo pieces and expressive storytelling to vibrant group ensembles with my Sāttvatī troupe.

A solo Kathak performance filmed within the serene and historic architecture of a temple, showcasing the beautiful spins and expressive movements of traditional dance.

Leading my Sāttvatī troupe in a traditional Tarana, a piece passed down from my own gurus. This performance highlights the synchronicity and energy of a full group on a professionally lit stage.

My talented students from the Sāttvatī School of Dance in a dynamic pose during our "ARAMBH" performance, dressed in vibrant red and blue costumes.

A glimpse of a duet performance with Kislaya Anand for the Hosur Natyanjali Festival, celebrating the divine occasion of Mahashivaratri through dance.

Performing a traditional Panch Jati Chakradhar in Teentaal, a technical and rhythmic piece taught by my guruji, set against a beautiful heritage backdrop.

The official announcement for my Sufi Kathak performance at the Sangeet Natak Akademi, a special collaboration blending spiritual music with classical dance.

An expressive solo piece performed outdoors, connecting the movements of Kathak with the beauty of nature. This choreography explores new themes outside the traditional stage.

About this collection

Whether you need a solo artist for an intimate gathering or a high-energy group performance for a large festival, my approach remains the same: staying true to the rhythm of the bols while ensuring the choreography connects with your audience. I am based in Banashankari but travel across India for performances, always prioritizing technical precision alongside expressive storytelling.

My work on stage is a reflection of the training I received at age 12, passed down through the guru-shishya parampara. When you hire me for a performance, you are not just getting a dancer; you are getting a complete thematic experience.

My Performance Offerings

  • Solo Classical Features: Ideal for focused settings or intimate gatherings. These 30-45 minute sets include traditional Vandana, intricate footwork (Nritta), and abhinaya (storytelling).
  • Sāttvatī Group Ensemble: For larger stages or corporate events, my troupe provides a synchronized 45-60 minute showcase. We focus on fast-paced rhythmic conclusions and narrative themes.
  • Sufi Kathak Concerts: A premium, meditative experience blending Kathak with Sufi music, performed with a live 4-piece ensemble. This requires a longer duration of 60-90 minutes.

Technical and Venue Requirements

To ensure the best performance, I prioritize the safety and quality of the dance floor. A wooden, non-slip dance surface is non-negotiable. For group or Sufi performances, a private green room for the team is essential.

If you are planning an event, consider the nature of your audience. Traditional Tarana or Kavith works beautifully for cultural festivals and religious gatherings, while my storytelling pieces focusing on mythological themes like the Ramayan resonate well with academic or art-focused audiences.

I am always happy to discuss customization. If you have a specific theme in mind, let me know, and we can explore how to bring it to life through Kathak.

I am Sohini, and for me, Kathak is a lifelong conversation between my gurus, my students, and the stage. I run the Sāttvatī School of Dance in Bangalore, where I pass down the rhythms I learned when I was twelve. When I perform, I am simply sharing the joy of this living art form.
