Kathak Dance Classes in Bangalore & Online
Learn Kathak with a focus on tradition, rhythm, and personal growth. Whether you are in Banashankari, Jayanagar, Koramangala, or joining from home, our doors are open.
Here is a clear schedule for our offline classes across Bangalore. We have batches for kids, beginners, and intermediate students at our main branch in BSK 6th Stage, as well as beginner batches in Jayanagar and Koramangala.
Admissions are open for you to begin your Kathak training. This video showcases the fluid movements and powerful spins you can learn, whether you choose to join our online or offline classes.
Geography is no barrier to learning Kathak. This is a collage of my dedicated online students practicing a Shiv Kavith together from their homes, demonstrating the power of virtual learning in our guru-shishya tradition.
About Join Our Classes: Online & Offline
Our classes go beyond just learning steps. We prioritize the guru-shishya parampara, which means you receive individual attention on your posture, footwork, and rhythm. Whether you are training at our BSK 6th Stage main studio or joining via live Zoom sessions, we emphasize clear, consistent feedback to help you build a solid foundation in this classical art form.
Traditional Roots, Modern Accessibility
At Sāttvatī School of Dance, we are built on the foundation of traditional Kathak training. We do not just teach choreography; we focus on the building blocks of the art: Tatkar (footwork), Hastas (hand gestures), and Padhant (recitation of rhythmic bols).
Where You Can Learn
We run dedicated in-person batches in South Bangalore (BSK 6th Stage, Jayanagar, and Koramangala) and live online sessions for students across the globe. Our in-person studios are equipped with sprung flooring, which is essential to protect your knees and ankles during the rigorous footwork practice that Kathak demands.
The Power of Live Music
A defining feature of our classes is the inclusion of live Tabla and Harmonium sessions. Learning to dance to live percussion fundamentally changes how you perceive Laya (rhythm). It is not just about counting beats; it is about feeling the pulse of the music in your movements.
Classes for Every Level
Whether you are a parent looking for a disciplined yet fun activity for your child, or an adult wanting to reconnect with dance or start from scratch, we have a place for you. We keep batch sizes small, usually 6 to 12 students, to ensure I can personally correct your posture and expression. We believe performance is an essential part of the learning journey. My students regularly train for and participate in festivals and stage showcases, moving from the practice floor to the spotlight.
Sohini Karanth
I started my Kathak journey at 12, and today, teaching is my way of giving back the magic I received from my gurus. I treat my students like family because, in our guru-shishya tradition, that is exactly what we are. Watching them master a complex teentaal composition or step onto the stage with confidence is what keeps me dancing every single day.
