Kathak is more than just movement; it is a conversation between teacher and student. Step inside our classrooms where we explore the rhythm, discipline, and sheer joy of this timeless dance form.

A candid moment from our second-anniversary celebration. Here, students practice their form and posture, showing the discipline and grace we cultivate in every class.

The cutest moments often happen when teaching my youngest students. Here, my kids are learning to recite Kathak bols, showing their focus and adorable expressions as they follow along.

It was a blessing to have a visiting guru guide my students. This video montage shows various moments from a six-week workshop, including group practice, recitation of bols, and interactive learning sessions.

About The Guru-Shishya Journey: Inside Our Classes

We teach in small batches of 6-12, ensuring every student receives direct feedback on their posture and bol recitation. Our studios use professional wooden floors to support your joints as you practice tatkar and spins, and we often incorporate live tabla accompaniment to help you connect deeply with the rhythm.

Our classes are built on the foundation of the guru-shishya parampara, where the relationship between teacher and student is central to the learning process. Whether you are a child starting your first tatkar or an adult exploring advanced abhinaya, the goal is consistent: to understand the language of Kathak, not just memorize steps.

Why our classes feel different

  • Small Batches: We cap our classes at 12 students. This allows me to observe your body alignment, correct your hastas, and guide your laya individually.
  • The Right Environment: We prioritize professional wooden flooring in all our studios across Banashankari, Jayanagar, and Koramangala to minimize impact on your knees.
  • Holistic Learning: We weave mythological storytelling and theory into our practical sessions. You are not just learning choreography; you are learning the bols, the rhythmic language that defines Kathak.
  • Live Connection: Whenever possible, we bring in live tabla and harmonium. Hearing the beat live rather than from a speaker changes how you perceive the teen taal. It demands you listen as much as you move.

Getting Started

We offer foundation batches for kids that focus on discipline and basic posture, and professional hobby batches for adults that include cardio fitness and complex choreography. If you are outside Bengaluru, our virtual classes via Zoom bring this same rigorous, structured approach directly to your home space, with verbal corrections and recorded sessions for practice. Every session, whether online or offline, starts with pranam to honor the space and the art.

I started my Kathak journey when I was 12, and now it is the air I breathe. I built Sāttvatī to pass on the magic of this art form to my students, whom I lovingly call my kids. We laugh, we mess up, and we grow together, one bol at a time.
