About Kathak Training: From Basics to Advanced
Whether you are learning to balance your weight for a chakkar (spin) or aligning your hands for hastak (gestures), we go baareeki se (with detail). I teach Kathak by breaking every 16-beat cycle into manageable parts, reciting the bols (rhythmic syllables) with you until the rhythm feels natural. You will never feel rushed; we build your posture and grace at your own pace, ensuring the dance becomes an emotion rather than a chore.
My Approach to Kathak
I believe Kathak is not just about memorizing sequences but about understanding the relationship between the music and your body. My training focuses on the Lucknow and Raigarh gharanas, guiding you from basic Tatkar (footwork) to complex compositions.
What you will experience in class:
- Rhythm & Posture: We start by securing your base. Before we add speed, we ensure your Teentaal (16-beat cycle) is precise and your spinal alignment is correct.
- Expression (Bhav): Dance is an emotion. I teach you how to use your Mudras and facial expressions to tell a story through movement.
- Interactive Sessions: Whether we are on Zoom, Google Meet, or in my studio, every student gets personalized feedback. I actively correct angles and posture during the session, not after.
For the Serious Learner
If you are interested in pursuing dance as a qualification, I offer full preparation for certification exams from recognized boards like Prayag Sangeet Samiti and Prachin Kala Kendra. We cover both the practical syllabus and the necessary theory, ensuring you have the technical knowledge to back up your performance.
Can you join?
Yes. I have taught students from 4 years old to adults in their 70s. Whether you are a total beginner who has never stood on a stage or an experienced dancer looking to refine your technique, there is a place for you in my batch. We maintain a patient, non-judgmental environment where 'mujhse nahi hoga' is never an option.
Looking for something else?
We offer a variety of classical and semi-classical dance forms for all ages and skill levels.
