The sound of 'thalam' and the rhythm of feet. This video focuses on the precise footwork of Mohiniyattam 'adavus' during our daily practice sessions.

Week two of 'adavu' practice. This reel shows our students working together to synchronize their movements, slowly and steadily aiming for perfection.

A lighter moment in our kalari. Even during practice, the joy of dance shines through as we flaunt the beautiful layers of our skirts.

A duet practice session. Learning together helps dancers refine their movements and timing, creating a beautiful synergy.

The 'thalam' (cymbals) and a dancer's hand. This image symbolizes the dedication and practice that goes into mastering the rhythm of Mohiniyattam.

"Dance so only the dance and energy remain." This video captures a moment of pure, uninhibited dance, reflecting our core philosophy of losing oneself in the art.

About Our Kalari: The Learning Space

In our kalari, we keep batch sizes strictly between 4 to 8 students. This isn't just about ensuring you get floor space; it allows for dedicated, one-on-one postural corrections on your adavus (footwork) and hastha mudras (hand gestures). When you train here, we focus on the subtle swaying movements of Andolika that define the Bharati Shivaji style.

Our Approach to Mohiniyattam

Learning Mohiniyattam is a process, not a race. We start with the foundation—the adavu techniques—ensuring your stance and rhythm are solid before we move into complex choreography. Our sessions run for 60 to 75 minutes, providing enough time to warm up, practice, and receive individual feedback from the Guru. We believe that dance happens when the dancer disappears, so our teaching balances rigorous physical conditioning with the spiritual essence of the art.

What You Will Learn

Our curriculum follows the Bharati Shivaji style. Beginners start by mastering the basics of footwork (Chuvadusadhakam) and body movement. As you progress, we introduce you to the narrative depth of the dance, focusing on Abhinaya (expression) and the spiritual history of the compositions. If you are training for a long-term goal like an Arangetram, we provide a structured roadmap that covers everything from your training and choreography to coordinating the live orchestra for your solo debut.

The Kalari Environment

Our studio in Gottigere is more than just a practice hall. It is a shared space where we value community as much as technique. You will find students of all ages learning side-by-side, creating a supportive environment where peer learning is encouraged. We also host internal jam sessions and celebrate festivals like Vijayadashami together. If you are looking for a space in Bangalore that treats you as family while upholding the integrity of traditional Mohiniyattam, you have found your home here.
