My Approach to Movement
For me, choreography is about bridging the gap between traditional Kathak foundations and the needs of a modern stage or screen. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all routines. Whether I am directing a high-energy group piece for a corporate gala or a quiet, emotive solo, I prioritize spatial geometry and the emotional arc of the performance.
Stage & Live Performance
Having performed as a principal dancer in major theatrical productions like 'Sitayana', I understand the demands of live performance. I design formations specifically for the stage environment—whether it is a runway for a fashion show or a theater space. I work on the technicality of the movement, ensuring that every dancer is safe, comfortable, and expressive, even during the most complex sequences.
Choreography for Camera
Shooting for a film or music video is a completely different discipline. Here, I focus on movement blocking for the lens, ensuring that every frame captures the intended line and emotion. I have worked with brands like L'Oreal and Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, creating pieces that translate well in 16:9 or 9:16 formats without dead space.
Working Together
I split my time between Mumbai and London, but I travel wherever the story takes me. My working process is collaborative—I listen to what you want to convey, look at the music or theme, and then we build the movement together.
