Before we draw a single line, we read the land. We are a design collective dedicated to landscape architecture that prioritizes ecology, local stories, and the quiet joy of thoughtful spaces.

The name Amālgrain comes from the words "amalgamation" and "grain." I see design as the artful amalgamation of individual grains, whether they are ideas, materials, or the talented people I collaborate with. This image represents the "Urban Grains" that form our cities.4

Our Design Philosophy & Process

Amalgrain StudioBased in Hoodi; Projects across Bengaluru & Kodagu
Our design for the TAPMI Centre in Manipal, a space for community and learning. Here, the stepped amphitheater under large bamboo parasols creates a porous hub for `sabhas` or gatherings, inspired by traditional Indian ghats and designed to be a vital social space for the city.8
For Project 1374, we reimagined the role of green spaces in dense urban living. The home unfolds as a series of staggered volumes, creating pockets for lush, vertical gardens that weave through the structure, ensuring the landscape is the centerpiece, not an afterthought.
The Manipal School of Architecture & Planning, where the facade becomes a fluid, brick-clad gesture. This undulating form creates a welcoming, doorless entrance, tucking the main access below and allowing the steps to become a democratic space for student interaction.
In Project 58, the architecture becomes a living entity, almost disappearing behind a cascade of greenery. We used a combination of black stone, custom terracotta screens, and dense vertical planting to create a home that is truly porous and integrated with its landscape.

The Purple Ink StudioStudio in Vasanth Nagar; Landscape projects in Bengaluru, Goa & Coastal Karnataka
The 'Breathe' residence, where the structure is designed as a living, breathing skin. The building, with its perforated earth-block walls, is enveloped by a native landscape of wild grasses, demonstrating how architecture and nature can exist in true companionship.8
At the 'Aamra' farmhouse, life unfolds around a mature mango tree, which serves as the heart of the home. The design prioritizes the existing landscape, creating a built form that respects and integrates with the natural environment, offering spaces for quiet contemplation and family life.
This is a view of the eco-sensitive landscape I designed at Kaggalipura, overlooking the Bannerghatta forest range. The design focuses on creating a rich habitat using native plant landscaping to attract local wildlife, turning the entire site into a sanctuary.
The concept of 'Jagli katte', a traditional sitting verandah, is central to the 'Aamra' project. Here, it becomes a space for leisure and connection, demonstrating how landscape design can foster slowness and unhurried activities within a natural setting.

We see architecture as a dialogue between the built form and the natural world. This experience center, designed for a farmhouse project, embodies this belief through its transparency and seamless integration with the verdant landscape, creating a space that feels both expansive and intimate.7
A successful urban landscape is one that breathes life into a community. Here, we designed a multi-layered central courtyard with distinct zones for play, conversation, and quiet reflection, transforming a simple apartment complex into a vibrant, interactive neighborhood.
We believe outdoor spaces should nurture well-being. This dedicated gong and meditation deck, set against a backdrop of lush greenery, provides residents with a serene sanctuary for mindfulness and escape, right at their doorstep.
Our design philosophy blurs the line between indoors and outdoors. In this reception area for the Soul Spring project, floor-to-ceiling glass and an integrated water body invite the landscape inside, creating a tranquil and welcoming atmosphere from the moment of arrival.
