Community and Residential Landscape Design
We design landscapes that bridge the gap between built architecture and living nature. Whether it is a private sanctuary or a shared community space, we create grounds where people and ecology thrive together.
This rendering illustrates my vision for a vibrant community living project. The design integrates a swimming pool, wooden deck, and stepped seating areas within a lush central courtyard, creating multiple zones for relaxation and social interaction.
I envision community spaces that are active and full of life. This illustration shows a central plaza designed for various activities, from cycling to casual gatherings, framed by tall trees that provide shade and a sense of enclosure.
Wellness is a key part of community design. This render shows a dedicated yoga and exercise deck overlooking the central green space, providing residents with a serene environment to connect with nature while they stay active.
This view showcases the relationship between the architecture and the landscape. The swimming pool is surrounded by dense greenery and seating areas, creating a resort-like feel within the residential community.
An aerial view of an upcoming community project, illustrating how landscape pockets are scooped out at every level. The design includes a basketball court and play areas, seamlessly integrating active recreation into the residential environment.
As evening falls, landscape lighting transforms the space. Here, a sculptural concrete water feature becomes a dramatic focal point, with underwater lights illuminating the aquatic plants and creating beautiful reflections.
The same water feature by day, showing how the concrete sculpture acts as a modern art piece within the landscape. The surrounding greenery and calm water provide a tranquil atmosphere in this residential development.
A simple retaining wall becomes a living 'Wonderwall' with creeping fig. The contrast between the soft, undulating lawn and the textured green wall adds depth and interest to this residential garden space.
A curved bridge spans across a swale, allowing natural water flow while creating a pleasant walkway. The layered planting of ornamental grasses and leafy shrubs adds to the naturalistic feel of this podium landscape.
From this vantage point, you can see the layers of the landscape design. The steps lead down into a lush garden filled with a variety of textures and shades of green, from manicured planters to towering bamboo.
About Community & Residential Landscapes
We do not just plant grass; we sculpt the land to handle Bengaluru's rain and sun, ensuring your garden is as low-maintenance as it is beautiful. When we plan a podium or a private garden, we look at where the water flows, where the sun sits, and how you actually use the space, so the final design feels like it grew out of the ground rather than being placed on top of it.
Every residential project begins with 'reading' the site. It is not just about aesthetics; it is about ecological intelligence. When designing a community space or a villa garden, we move away from the standard approach of using high-maintenance, water-hungry lawns that fight against our climate. Instead, we introduce native species and layered planting that invite birds, manage drainage naturally, and reduce the need for constant, manual irrigation.
Our approach balances private intimacy with communal interaction. For residential communities, we plan podiums and central courtyards as social catalysts. These are not just patches of greenery; they are functional outdoor rooms with stepped seating for gatherings, quiet decks for reflection, and shaded zones that encourage residents to step outside.
For private villas, we focus on sensory design. We integrate materials like locally sourced granite for pathways, aggregate concrete for durable seating, and permeable paving to ensure water recharges into the earth rather than running off. If you are looking to transform your terrace, balcony, or ground-level garden, we provide full-scope design services, from the initial sun-path analysis to the selection of soil-less, lightweight mixes for terraces. We want to build spaces that age well, tell a story, and invite you to slow down.
Reading Grounds
We are Reading Grounds, a design collective that treats every site like a story waiting to be told. We get into the mud, study the ecology, and work with local materials to create landscapes that feel like they have always belonged.
