About this collection

Our workshops focus on the internal essence behind every movement and note. Whether you are refining Hasta Viniyogas in Bharatanatyam or studying the intricacies of a Pancharatna kriti in Carnatic music, you will receive guidance that emphasizes both technical precision and the spiritual purpose of the art. Each intensive session typically includes theory, practice, and the opportunity to offer your work as a performance during our cultural festivals at the Heritage Campus.

Art as Sadhana

At the Ramana Maharshi Centre for Learning, we treat art as a form of worship and self-reflection. Our advanced learning programs, specifically Natyopasana and Nadopasana, are designed for students who already possess a foundation in their chosen discipline. These are not merely hobby classes. They are structured environments for those who wish to elevate their practice from skill to sadhana (disciplined spiritual practice).

Natyopasana: Bharatanatyam Advanced Learning

For dancers, our intensive workshops cover advanced repertoire and theoretical depth. We regularly invite distinguished Gurus to teach specific items, such as Devi Varnams or Thirupugazh compositions. Curriculum highlights include:

  • Technical Mastery: Advanced steps, complex jathis, and nritya abhinaya.
  • Theory: Understanding Hasta Viniyogas (hand gestures) and the foundations of Nattuvangam, which is the essential art of rhythmic direction.
  • Performance: Students are often given the chance to perform the learned pieces during our valedictory programs at the Ramana Maharshi Heritage Auditorium in Sanjayanagar, providing real-world stage experience.

Nadopasana: Carnatic Music Intensives

Our Carnatic music workshops are built on the Ramananjali syllabus, often focusing on unique compositions that carry the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi. Classes typically include:

  • Advanced Repertoire: Deep diving into Pancharatna kritis and other major compositions in traditional Ragas.
  • Context: Exploring the Sahitya (lyrics) and the history behind the compositions.
  • Group Offerings: We emphasize the power of group singing, with participants performing offerings during events like Ramana Aradhana.

Flexible Learning Formats

We understand that serious students may be based in different locations. While we hold our intensive camps and performances at our traditional open-air hall in the Sanjayanagar heritage campus, we also conduct specific theory and vocal workshops online via Google Meet. This ensures that dedicated practitioners can continue their learning regardless of their location, while still participating in the community spirit that defines our centre.
