About Advanced Learning: Masterclasses & Workshops
These masterclasses go beyond standard choreography. When you join, we do not just focus on steps, we dive into the history of the ancient Natyashastra and the precise Karanas that define classical movement. It is a space for serious students to move past basic technique and connect the intellectual depth of Sanskrit texts to their own performance.
For the seasoned dancer, the journey of art never truly stops at the final step. Our masterclasses are designed for those who wish to transition from learning to deep understanding. We frame each session around specific themes, such as the Dohada tradition or the reconstruction of ancient Karanas, ensuring that every movement carries the weight of history and intent.
We structure these intensives as weekend workshops, allowing for a focused, deep-dive experience. Unlike regular group classes, these sessions often incorporate theoretical insights into the Sahithya, or literature, that informs the dance. We look at how the music, the rhythm, and the posture converge to evoke Rasa.
Whether you are joining us online or at our Bangalore studios, you are entering a space where the legacy of our Gurus is very much alive. These workshops are collaborative environments. You will find yourself training alongside senior company dancers, sharing observations, and decoding complex movements together. It is about intellectual rigor as much as it is about physical grace. By the end of an intensive, our goal is that you take home not just a new item for your repertoire, but a more profound way of seeing the dance itself.
Nirupama Rajendra
We consider it a sacred responsibility to pass on the knowledge our Gurus entrusted to us. These workshops are where we step away from the routine of regular classes to truly listen to the music, the text, and the rhythm of our own bodies.
