The Salangai Pooja is a sacred ceremony where a student formally receives their dancing bells. It is a milestone that marks the end of initial training and the beginning of a dedicated journey on stage.

Inviting all to the Salangai Pooja of our students. Please be there to bless and encourage them as they cross this first important milestone.

Sharing some cherished memories from our recent Salangai Pooja. This first big milestone is a moment of immense pride for the students, parents, and me.

A group of my adult students gave a wonderful performance to mark their Salangai Pooja. They persevered through busy schedules to make this happen, and I am so proud of them.

More proud parents from our Samarpana family sharing their joy during the Salangai Pooja. Their support is the foundation of their children's success.

A clip from our recent Salangai Pooja performance. The synchronization and grace of the students is a result of months of dedicated practice.

Welcoming you all to the Salangai Pooja of our Adults Batch. It is never too late to pursue a passion for dance.

About Salangai Pooja: A Sacred Milestone

Reaching this milestone usually takes my students three to four years of consistent practice. It is not just about learning steps; it is about building the stamina to wear the bells and the discipline to maintain the Aramandi stance for an entire performance.

The Salangai Pooja is a formal initiation, a moment when the student is ready to wear the ghungroo, or dancing bells. It signifies that the student has mastered the fundamental Adavus and possesses the physical stamina required for a full-length performance.

The Path to Your First Performance

At Samarpana Dance Academy, this is not a rushed process. We follow the traditional Kalakshetra style, where the foundation is everything. Here is what this journey typically involves:

  • Foundational Rigor: Before the Pooja, students undergo years of training to perfect the Aramandi posture and rhythmic precision.
  • Physical Conditioning: We emphasize yoga and muscle strengthening, especially for adult learners, to ensure the body is ready to sustain the weight and intensity of the bells.
  • Theoretical Grounding: Students learn the Shlokas and the cultural significance of the movements. It is not just about physical execution; it is about understanding the art form.

Whether you are a child starting your dance journey or an adult returning to a long-held passion, this ceremony is a powerful affirmation of your dedication. We hold classes at our Whitefield studio and offer hybrid models for those who need flexibility. If you are ready to commit to this discipline, I am here to guide you to your first stage appearance.
