Sparring (Kyorugi): Safe & Supervised Combat Training
Sparring is where technique meets speed. At Powerstar Academy, we teach tactical Kyorugi using full protective gear, helping students build focus, strategy, and real-world confidence under my supervision.

About Sparring (Kyorugi): Safe & Supervised Combat
Sparring is not just about power; it is about timing and strategy. When you enter the ring, you are wearing full protective gear—Hogu chest guards and headgear—because safety is our priority while you learn to execute fast-paced exchanges and counter-attacks. I personally supervise every match, making sure you learn how to handle the pressure of competition while keeping your technique sharp and your spirit high.
Sparring, or Kyorugi, is the heart of Taekwondo at Powerstar Academy. It bridges the gap between static kicks on a paddle and real-world agility. Many parents worry about injuries, but my approach is strictly supervised. Before any student steps onto the mats for sparring, we ensure they have mastered the basics: balance, footwork, and defensive blocks. We use high-quality EVA mats and standard protective equipment including headgear and chest guards (Hogu) to ensure that every session is intense but controlled.
It is about mental toughness. As I always tell my students, 'Bas ek Coach hi toh hai jise aapke haar ya jeet dono se fark padta hai' (It is only the coach who is affected by both your win and your loss). I stand ringside to guide students through the adrenaline of a match. Whether it is a district tournament in Navi Mumbai or a practice drill at our Ulwe Sector 17 facility, the goal is always the same: learn respect, manage fear, and execute.
Our Kyorugi training covers:
- Reaction Time: Drills to improve speed and decision-making during exchanges.
- Point Scoring: Learning the legal targets and high-scoring kicks according to official Taekwondo standards.
- Strategic Defense: How to effectively block, dodge, and counter-attack while minimizing vulnerability.
- Conditioning: Physical preparation required to maintain peak energy levels throughout the match.
We train students for the reality of competition, teaching them that an opponent is not an enemy, but a teacher. If you are looking for a place in Navi Mumbai to build genuine combat skills, discipline, and the mindset of a champion, you are in the right place.
