About Practical Self-Defense

Most people think self-defense is about learning fancy movie moves, but that is not it. Here, we focus on three things: block, grip, and attack. These are instinctive, simple reactions you can actually pull off when someone grabs you against a wall or tries to intimidate you. We don’t do complicated choreography; we focus on what works when you are under stress.

Why Real-World Defense Matters

In my classes, I don't care about looking pretty. I care about you going home safe. Whether you are a student, a working professional, or a parent, knowing how to handle a physical threat is a necessary life skill. We train with intensity because danger doesn't give you a warm-up session.

The 'Block, Grip, Attack' Method

We break down self-defense into a repeatable, high-percentage sequence:

  • Block: Getting your hands up to protect your vital points.
  • Grip: Securing the attacker or creating distance, especially if they have grabbed you or are pressing you against a wall.
  • Attack: Striking hard at vulnerable areas to create an opening so you can run.

We practice this with controlled sparring—or Kyorugi—to get your heart rate up. You will learn to control your fear, breathe, and act before you think.
