We believe karate extends beyond the walls of our dojo. Our public demonstrations and community events are opportunities for our students to show the discipline, focus, and technical precision they have developed through years of training.

A large-scale karate demonstration by our students at a school event. This showcases the discipline and coordination we instill in our training programs.

Our students demonstrating various skills, including kata, Kobudo, and Tameshiwari (breaking), for an audience of parents and community members.

Tameshiwari, or the art of breaking, is a test of power, focus, and technique. Here, students of all ages demonstrate their ability to break boards.

It was an honor to host Sensei Yuki Okajima, a Kobudo world champion, at our dojo. Here I am presenting her with a memento.

Our students with Sensei Yuki Okajima. Her visit was a great inspiration for everyone to deepen their practice, especially in Kobudo.

I am proud to have provided self-defense and unarmed combat training to members of the police force. This highlights the practical, real-world application of karate.

The stage is set for our Republic Day Cup tournament. Competitive events are an important part of a student's development.

About Demonstrations & Community Events

When you see our students performing tameshiwari or kata in public, you are watching the result of years of incremental practice, not overnight success. These demonstrations are vital tests of character for our students; they must hold their focus and composure in front of an audience, which is a key part of their growth. Whether we are at a school ground or a community center, the goal is always to show that traditional karate is about building a calm, resilient mindset through persistent, honest effort.

Why We Step Outside the Dojo

Our demonstrations at schools, colleges, and community centers are not for spectacle. They are a practical teaching tool. When a student stands before an audience to perform, they must overcome nerves and find their center—a skill that is just as valuable in a classroom or at work as it is in the dojo.

The Okinawan Tradition

Every demo we perform, whether it is for a police force self-defense session or our annual Republic Day Cup, is rooted in the Shorin-ryu Shorinkan system. We maintain the same standards of movement and etiquette that I learned directly from Hanshi Minoru Nakazato in Okinawa. We do not adapt our karate for the stage; we bring the integrity of the traditional art to the public.

What Happens at Our Events

  • Tameshiwari (Breaking): This is a physical measure of focus, technique, and timing. It proves that force is generated through proper mechanics and intent, not brute strength.
  • Kobudo Weapons Training: We often showcase the Bo, Tonfa, and Sai to demonstrate the history and precision of Okinawan martial arts.
  • Community Seminars: We frequently host guest experts, including Kobudo world champions, to keep our training standards high and bring international exposure to our students in Bengaluru and Davanagere.
  • Annual Day & Grading: This is the most significant event on our calendar, where students are awarded their black belts after rigorous testing. It is a moment of pride for the entire federation and a chance for families to witness the progress of our students.

If you want your school or organization to host a demonstration or if you are interested in joining our community, feel free to reach out. We are always looking for ways to share the discipline of karate with new groups.

I am Shihan Suresh Kenichira, and I have dedicated over 30 years to sharing the authentic Shorin-ryu Karate lineage I learned in Okinawa. I lead every demonstration and community program personally because I believe the spirit of the dojo should be accessible to everyone, from school children to the police force.
