About Advanced Skills: Kobudo & Kumite
These sessions are designed for students who have already established a solid foundation in our Shorin-ryu syllabus. We move beyond empty-hand techniques to incorporate Kobudo tools like the Bo staff and Tonfa, alongside controlled Kumite sparring. This is where you learn to master timing, distance, and application in realistic scenarios, following the same methodology practiced at our Honbu Dojo in Okinawa.
Building on Tradition
Advanced training is not just about complexity, it is about refinement. Once you understand the basic forms, we introduce the Okinawan weaponry systems of Kobudo. Learning to handle the Bo staff, Tonfa, or Sai teaches you to extend your reach and understand the mechanics of power generation that empty-hand techniques cannot teach alone. These tools require precise handling, focus, and a deep respect for their history.
Strategic Sparring
Our Kumite seminars focus on controlled contact. We do not practice to harm, but to understand. You will learn to manage your distance, read your opponent, and execute techniques with intent. This is the practical application of the Kata you have spent years perfecting. It brings the theory of the dojo into a dynamic environment where you must adapt to a partner's movements in real time.
The Okinawa Connection
Authenticity is at the core of everything we do. My own training comes directly from Hanshi Minoru Nakazato in Okinawa, and I maintain that lineage in our Bengaluru and Davanagere dojos. When you train in these advanced classes, you are learning the same principles that are taught at the Honbu Dojo. Whether you are prepping for a Dan rank or simply seeking to deepen your understanding of the system, this program provides the technical structure and the discipline required to progress.
