Competition training at OSK isn't just about showing up for a medal. It requires a specific commitment to our tournament-grade syllabus, covering everything from Bunkai (combat application) to high-stamina Kobudo sparring. If you're serious about competing, we build your routine and mental strength to handle the pressure of the ring.
For us, the tournament floor is the ultimate classroom. When we take our students to compete—whether it’s at the All India Open Karate Championship in Mysore or the World Karate Championship in Okinawa—it’s not about just winning. It’s about testing if the discipline we teach in the dojo holds up under pressure. Alli hege teach madtare, same illi navu teach madtivi (The way they teach there, that is how we teach here). We don't change our syllabus for tournaments; we train harder to master the authentic style.
Our seminars, like the National Level Okinawan Traditional Kobudo Training, are how we share this. We don’t run these just to stay busy; we do it to ensure every instructor and student in our federation understands the root of the art. Whether it is breaking demonstrations or weapon-based sparring, these events are where we show our roots. When I started with 14 kids in 1992, I didn't imagine we'd be taking teams to Japan every year. I believe that if you train the right way, the results—the medals and the recognition—will follow naturally. My goal is to give every student the same platform I fought for.
