Master Planning and Zoning for Large-Scale Projects
from concept to circulation, we approach master planning by integrating infrastructure with public space. this stadium complex explores how stadiums, hospitality, and parking can function as a cohesive landscape.

About this collection
large-scale planning often fails at the pedestrian level. our strategy for this competition focused on segregating vehicular movement from spectator plazas, ensuring that even a parking facility could become a public garden. we mapped the sun path and traffic flow to ensure the built form works with the site, not against it.
the master planning process
our approach to the mca pune competition was rooted in site analysis. when designing for stadiums, the challenge lies in managing mass movement—thousands of spectators, service vehicles, and vip access—without compromising the architectural integrity of the facility.
zoning and circulation
we broke down the site into distinct zones: the primary stadium, the hotel-clubhouse integration, and the parking superstructure. by using stacked volumes and terraced gardens, we turned the parking facility into a public amenity. the circulation diagrams illustrate how we separated pedestrian pathways from vehicular ramps, ensuring safety while maintaining visual connectivity.
technical integration
the design incorporates:
- traffic management: automated entry-exit gates with clear convergence ramps to minimize congestion.
- environmental response: sun path analysis to position structures that naturally shade pedestrian plazas.
- landscape as infrastructure: transforming concrete parking structures into green terraces that bridge the indoor-outdoor divide.
every line in our master plan, from the hotel orientation to the stadium gate placements, was tested through 3d visualization. we view master planning not just as zoning, but as creating a framework for human experience.
Ochre Architects
at ochre, we view master planning as an exercise in flow and form. we do not just zone spaces; we study how people move through them to create a functional framework.
