Urban Development and Infrastructure Master Planning

I design urban spaces that solve complex connectivity issues. Whether developing a transit hub or an institutional campus, my focus is on separating pedestrian and vehicular flows to create safer, efficient environments.

This render shows the clear signage and organized traffic flow designed for the entrance of the Khadgarha Bus Terminal in Ranchi. The goal was to bring order to a previously chaotic transport hub.

An aerial view of the proposed Ranchi bus terminal and commercial complex. The plan provides dedicated zones for bus lanes, idle parking with solar roofs, and a separate high-rise for commercial activities.

The design for the Ranchi terminal features modern, lightweight tensile structures to cover the drop-off and pick-up zones, providing shelter while maintaining an open, airy feel.

A street-level view of the proposed private vehicle pick-up and parking area at the Ranchi bus terminal, designed to prevent traffic clogging at the main entrance.

The master plan includes dedicated lanes for buses, autos, and private cars to ensure smooth circulation throughout the 15-acre site.

This view highlights the integration of the green-roofed commercial complex with the functional bus terminal, creating a modern, multi-use urban asset.

A key feature of the Ranchi terminal plan is the elevated pedestrian skywalk, which allows passengers to move safely between the terminal and the commercial complex without crossing traffic.

About this collection

In projects like the Khadgarha Bus Terminal in Ranchi, I move beyond simple aesthetics to address fundamental urban safety concerns. By segregating pedestrian zones from vehicular lanes and integrating commercial spaces, I transform chaotic transport hubs into managed, revenue-generating assets that serve both the city and the traveller.

Infrastructure design is about understanding the life of a site. When I approach a master plan, I do not just draft lines on a map. I simulate the daily movement of thousands of people to ensure the built form supports their activities rather than hindering them.

My Approach to Urban Master Planning

  • Functional Zoning & Circulation: My primary goal is the separation of vehicular and pedestrian movement. At the Ranchi bus terminal, this involved planning distinct lanes for buses, private vehicles, and taxis, combined with skywalks to keep pedestrians safe from traffic.

  • Economic Viability: Infrastructure projects often require self-sustaining models. In my master plans, I integrate commercial zones, such as the high-rise complexes proposed for transport hubs, to ensure the project generates revenue for long-term maintenance.

  • Contextual Innovation: Every site has a soul. For the Urban Centre for Excellence in Telangana, I employed a concept based on a 'pool of ideas and loop of feedback'. This involved shaping the architecture to act as an extension of the surrounding landscape, utilizing green roofs and terraces to blend the facility into the environment.

  • Phasing for Growth: I design frameworks that allow for future expansion. Whether it is a university campus or a municipal terminal, the plan must be flexible enough to accommodate growth over decades, not just years.

I utilize rigorous research, including topographical studies and local history analysis, to ensure every site development contributes positively to the city fabric.

I approach master planning as an exercise in balancing utility with human experience. My goal is to ensure that large-scale infrastructure projects like transit hubs or research centres are not just built to stand, but designed to evolve with the city's growth.
