My Movement Journey: Finding Flow and Recovery
Dance isn't about hitting perfect lines. It is about showing up, listening to your body, and finding your own flow, even when the journey involves recovery.
This was my movement back in 2023, before my shoulder dislocation. I'm slowly getting my speed and ability back, and I'm waiting for the day I can dance full out again.
A late-night experiment to test how much sudden weight my shoulder is ready to take. My right side has become weak post-injury, but I see a lot of progress. The journey continues.
Spiral inspiral. The days are getting closer to hitting the dance floor with full force. I'm waiting to do my monkey stuff again as my shoulder injury recovery progresses.
About this collection
Recovering from a major shoulder dislocation completely changed how I approach my own practice and my teaching. I stopped chasing perfect poses and started prioritizing sustainable movement. In my classes, we use floor work and ballet fundamentals not to force your body into a shape, but to help you find your own rhythm while respecting your physical limits.
Why I Teach This Way
For a long time, I thought dance was about being loud and technical. My injury humbled me. When my right side went weak, I had to relearn how to move, how to balance, and how to breathe through frustration. This taught me that the real art isn't in a flawless pirouette; it's in the way you recover, the way you adapt, and the way you keep moving when things get hard.
What You Will Experience
My classes in Bangalore are built on this philosophy. Whether you join me at the Geetanjali Harmonica Institute in HSR Layout, Namma Nook in BEL Road, or Danzelle in JP Nagar, the focus remains the same:
- Active Meditation: We treat the warm-up as a way to connect with yourself, not just a physical task.
- Floor Work & Flow: We explore how to move from the ground up, finding the path of least resistance through rolls, spirals, and inversions.
- Ballet Fundamentals: We use the structure of ballet to build a strong, aligned base for your body, but we leave the judgment at the door.
Is This For You?
It does not matter if you have never danced before or if you have been training for years. I work with everyone from kids to adults. If you are looking for a space where you can build strength, work on your flexibility, or simply use movement as an outlet for the stress of a long day, you are welcome here. We keep the batches small—between 6 to 15 students—so I can actually give you feedback on your alignment and posture instead of just watching from the front.
Dance is a conversation with yourself. Come as you are, and let's find that flow.
Suraj
I'm Suraj. For me, dance is a conversation, a way to talk to my body and make sense of the world. My sessions are about finding that honest space, whether you're recovering from an injury, starting fresh, or just wanting to express yourself.
