About The Art of Glazing & Painting

Once you have finished painting your piece, the real magic happens in the kiln. We double-fire your work up to 1200 degrees Celsius, which turns those delicate underglaze colors into durable, food-safe finishes. You will need to wait about 3-4 weeks for your piece to be ready for collection, but seeing your own design emerge from the furnace makes the wait worthwhile.

Whether you are picking up a brush for the first time or looking to refine your surface decoration skills, our studio in HSR Layout offers a space to slow down. We teach a variety of techniques that allow you to express your personality on clay.

We focus on methods like sgraffito, where you paint a base layer and carve through it to reveal the clay body underneath, creating striking geometric or organic patterns. We also cover traditional underglaze painting, slip-trailing, and gradient blending for those soft, artistic effects.

It is not just about the technical skill, but the meditative process of applying color. We provide all the brushes, underglazes, tools, and professional firing services. You bring the creativity. If you have a specific pattern, floral design, or illustration in mind, feel free to bring a reference sketchbook. Our goal is to help you leave with a ceramic piece that feels uniquely yours, complete with your own brushstrokes and fingerprints.

I am Arunima, the hands and heart behind Maati Sona. I started this studio to help you step away from the noise and reconnect with your inner artist through clay. Glazing is where the true personality of your pottery comes to life, and I love helping students find their own rhythm and color palette.
