I believe in holding space for others to discover their own voice. Whether we are exploring the nuances of location sound or the freedom of creative movement, my workshops are about showing up, listening, and playing with our craft.

About Teaching & Workshops

When you step into one of my sessions, whether it is for location sound or creative movement, leave the idea of a 'right way' at the door. I structure my workshops around active experimentation, which means we spend less time on theory and more time with the gear in our hands or the movement in our bodies. It is a messy, collaborative process designed to help you build confidence by actually doing the work, rather than just watching me talk.

My Approach to Learning

I view teaching as a form of storytelling. Whether I am at Azim Premji University teaching location sound or hosting a movement workshop in Koramangala, the goal remains the same: to create a container where curiosity is the primary tool.

What I Teach

  • Location Sound Recording: I break down the technical barriers of field recording. You will learn how to handle professional field recorders, manage boom poles, and understand gain staging. We focus on listening—really listening—to the sonic identity of a space, whether it is a quiet park or a bustling street corner in Bengaluru.

  • Creative Movement & Bodywork: Drawing from my Yin Yoga practice, these sessions are about finding rhythm in the body. We explore 'The Breath Way' and other modalities that mix physical exertion with material play. This is not about rigid poses; it is about morphing shapes to suit your unique anatomy.

  • Multimedia Performance: For those interested in the intersection of film, audio, and performance, I offer guidance on how to weave these mediums together. We look at the 'why' behind the edit and the 'how' of sound design, making the process feel less like a technical chore and more like a creative extension of yourself.

Who This Is For

These workshops are for the curious soul. You do not need to be a professional filmmaker or a seasoned dancer. If you are an educator, an artist, or someone just looking to reconnect with your own creativity, you will find a place here. I keep groups intimate because I want to give everyone space to experiment, ask questions, and maybe even make a few mistakes along the way. That is where the real learning happens.

I am Navya, and for me, teaching is just another form of storytelling. I love creating containers where we can get curious, learn the technical bits of sound or movement, and walk away feeling a little more connected to ourselves and the world around us.
