Movement is a conversation meant to be shared. From immersive Butoh workshops to group improvisation sessions, I create spaces in Bengaluru where we learn, connect, and express ourselves together.

Part two of a fun, entertaining performance for children at a workshop organized by Black Box India. Spreading joy, love, and smiles is at the heart of what I do.

An improv duet with nature. We found a natural amphitheater near Bangalore and were so inspired by the overcast clouds and sounds of birds that we just had to dance.

Happy World Dance Day! A sneak peek at a duet my company, Black Box India, is cooking up. This is a glimpse into our creative process.

An impromptu contact improvisation celebrating World Dance Day with a fellow dancer. This is about listening and responding to another body in space.

A group photo from the Asia meets Asia Spring Camp 2024 in Tokyo. This international collaboration focused on climate change, bringing 14 members together to create a powerful group performance.

A group movement piece in Tokyo, remembering Kurdish history, music, and language. Art is a powerful way to keep cultural memory alive.

In loving memory of a dear friend and pillar of the arts community. This photo is from a performance we did together in Seattle in 2009. It’s a reminder of the deep bonds forged through art.

The world is a stage. A candid shot from a script reading, a reminder that drama and performance are all around us.

From my audition clip to the final take. A behind-the-scenes look at a commercial shoot, including a spontaneous Tango with a partner between takes.

The cast of "STILL DRIFTING" at the Asia meets Asia 2022 festival. This performance was a tribute to our late mentor and a powerful statement on the global refugee crisis.

About Workshops & Collaborations

Whether it is a workshop at our partner studios in Jayanagar or an impromptu improvisation session in the wild, my collaborative spaces are designed for raw, honest connection. I do not teach perfect replication of steps. I facilitate a space where we explore movement as a shared language. Bring your curiosity and an open mind, because in my sessions, the process of finding your own rhythm matters far more than the final performance.

Moving Together

I view dance as a communal act. My workshops are not about fitness aesthetics or repeating choreography until it looks 'correct.' They are about finding the movement that is already within you and seeing how it shifts when we move in relation to others.

My Collaborative Approach

I have been fortunate to collaborate with artists across the globe, from the stages of Tokyo with the Asia Meets Asia collective to nature-filled amphitheatres here in Bangalore. These experiences have taught me that art thrives on honest exchange. Whether I am guiding a group through a Japanese Butoh deep-dive or facilitating a contact improvisation jam, the goal remains the same: to turn movement into meditation and performance into a shared truth.

What to Expect in My Workshops

  • Butoh & Contemporary: We go beyond the surface. These sessions explore philosophy, human emotion, and our connection to nature. They are often quiet, intense, and deeply introspective.
  • Improvisation: This is where we learn to listen to another body in space. It is unscripted, spontaneous, and perfect for anyone who wants to break free from rigid structures.
  • Fusion & Technique: I enjoy blending the grace of Kathak with modern expression. These sessions are for those who want to understand roots while exploring new branches.

Where We Meet

I host sessions in partner studios across the city, including Jayanagar and Indiranagar. I also believe that the world is a stage, so occasionally, we take our movement outdoors. My classes are inclusive, welcoming everyone from absolute beginners to fellow artists. Come with an open mind, leave the judgment at the door, and let us see what we can create.

I am Archana, and for me, dance is not a solo pursuit but a conversation. I believe movement heals, connects, and brings us closer to the truth, whether we are exploring Butoh or simply improvising in a natural amphitheater. I am here to help you find your own rhythm, to move with intention, and to create alongside a community that values authenticity over perfection.
